2024/25 Michael Keane

I'd be disappointed in him personally if he stayed if offered a contract. He'd know it's a backup job and he's still a player held in his regard and will easily be able to move to a lower end Premier League team and start for them. I'd like him and DCL to go and play for Sheffield United tbh.

He knows full well that if he stays even if he’s fourth or fifth choice he’s getting on the pitch because Everton just can’t keep any players fit. He’s still played a decent amount of PL football this season despite being fourth choice. I hope the club hasn’t offered a new contract because he’ll bite our hands off for it. He needs to go. When he came on at the weekend I genuinely wondered if he had enough time to single-handedly torpedo a 2 goal lead in one last blaze of incompetence. There shouldn’t be any reason to think that about any player but he’s got form. He still had one moment where he was running to the near post for no reason at all as the ball went across him. He needs to go.

We probably needed a new center half in the summer, and with Tark`s injury it left us a little shorter in cover, and then Branner`s little injury on Saturday probably makes sense to keep him just to plug a gap in the short term.
Understand that but still makes me a little upset that he will still be around. Hope we’re lowering his salary if we do keep him. Also hoping he wants to go and actually play 1st team footy somewhere and we can sign a new cb.

We simply can't afford to pay a fourth choice centre back £70,000 a week.

…using Doucoure as an example (and maybe Young), it appears the new regime is more hard nosed in respect of salary offers.

What they will factor in is the cost (transfer fee/signing fee) of bringing in a replacement. I notice we have been linked with a few CBs, much could depend on plans for Branthwaite and the Tarkowski injury and maybe the possibility of keeping O’Brien at RB.

I agree, but we probably also have to factor in that bringing someone else isn't necessarily going to be any cheaper overall. I'm not saying I want us to keep Keane, God knows I've hoped for him to be punted pretty much every day for the last 6/7 years, but he is one where I can kind of see how it might end up making sense to keep him another year.
