Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Where will the PSR headroom come from for this 'big summer' everyone is hoping for?
Three main things: first the big losses of 2022/23 will roll out after this season. It's hard to say exactly how much PSR headroom we will have based on last two accounts, especially as this season's accounts will only come out next year. But loss should be much less than last year and we know club was PSR compliant then, with the 22/23 losses.

More importantly club can calculate the increased turnover from BMD into it. Club should have 60+ million bigger turnover.

And thirdly, there are quite a few contracts finishing which both frees money from wages but in a few cases also from amortization costs.

So as long as most of the business is done after June there should be headroom.

Better full backs completely transform the way the team can play and means we don’t have to have talentless cloggers in the side because they can run.
Agree but defensively only 5 teams have conceded less than us so priority should lay in more forward positions. Can't see a great outlay of funds on the full back positions just yet. We will probably go to the free market for cover or even loans. Let us get our flanks and CM and CF sorted as a priority because only the relegated teams have scored less than us. Moyes improved the scoring of goals over Dyche but we are still needing goals to push on while currently the defence is fairly sound

If the only player we kept from the current loans and contracts ending was Alcaraz, this is what we`d have, yes we`d need more but it is a good young platform to build from...

Pickford

Patterson

Tarkowski
Branthwaite
O`Brien

Mykolenko

Garner
Iroebugnam

Alcaraz
NDaiye
McNeil

Chermiti

You could also argue Tyrer, Crellin & Armstrong, also potentially Dixon, Tamen, Benjamin & Sherif might take up a few of the development spots but we wont know till after pre season. Some of the better U21 could do with a proper loan, that U21 league isn`t really fit for purpose.
A 36 year old rb started, got injured and Moyed chose to replace him with a 40 year old left back rather thna bring Patterson on. I would be genuinely amazed if Patterson was with us next season?

This just in: full backs can actually attack as well.

Really !!! Thanks for the heads up. Let us get full backs then and remain with blunt wingers. If you read my post (you didn't) then you will see wingers are more a priority than full backs currently and we can still get full backs but not use a big outlay for them.

Your rationale for not spending money on full backs though was that the defence doesn’t concede many goals, but really if we’re still buying full backs based on how good they are defensively then we’ve learnt nothing and are still stuck in the 90’s.

Full backs in this day and age are absolutely key to transitioning from defence into attack. I think it’s the absolute priority position to address, especially right back where we don’t have a single viable option going into next season as it stands.

Replacing all these players would need one heck of a budget - they are going to have to make some unpopular decisions.

We are potentially shifting a lot of wages that can be used for other players - but that doesn't solve the transfer fees.

Should probably also extend Pickford, Tarks, Mykolenko, Gana, McNeil, Garner (?), Branthwaite to make sure we have a squad at all !

I think Beto stays.

What I am saying is we cannot build in 1 season so rather have priority on forward players initially. In this case build from the front to back.

Doucs clearly off, judging by his reaction going off yesterday. Dom clearly NEA, so ditto. Séamus brief final hurrah, apparently staying in some capacity, almost certainly not in a playing role tho. Youngy off also. Moyes apparently ambivalent on Charly. Who does that leave?
Not sure on the Charly assumption, could have been just to give Douc's his last hurrah. Fingers crossed it was anyway.....

Agreed It will be tough but if we don’t address the full back positions as priority the only forward upgrades will be yet more players who are best at covering ground rather than being competent with the football.

I thought Beto and Micko were both good yesterday. They will get better with a preseason under Moyes.
Micko got forward multiple times and end product has improved. Beto's hold-up play was way better and 2 good passes come to mind, one that DCL should have scored with and another that McNeil miss read. On another day could have had a hattrick but at least he finished the offside goals so wont dent his confidence.
I think we need (listed by priority)
RW (starter)
RB (starter)
Striker (to challenge Beto)
CM (to challenge Gana)
This assumes we keep Alcaraz.
I think Patterson can be the cover RB and LB but we could do with another as I dont see him being here much longer.
Need 4th choice centre back and goalkeeper cover.

…..problem is shifting players like him, doubt there’d be many takers.
I think you'd be surprised. He's still a good age (only 23) he isn't earning a fortune here and his book value is only about £4 million, so we don't need a huge transfer fee for him to make it viable. There will be plenty of takers I would imagine, the question would just be whether they're at the level he'd want.
