2024/25 Seamus Coleman

Don’t think he was ever fit enough today to play a meaningful part.

I suspect it was a purely ceremonial/sentimental call by Moyes having Coleman lead us out.

As it’s a bit of a dead rubber (in that Southampton are clearly not interested), I’ve no issue with it.

He can’t be offered a contract next season though. It’s time to hang them up.

Glad he got to play and get the send off he deserved. But even with limited minutes today it clearly shows that’s it. Grateful for him and his service. But he’s got to hang them up. He’s got so much to give if he wants to help manage.

The plan I assume was to get through to half time or early second half and then pull him off then but couldn't manage that.

Like everything else today it was superbly managed. However I can't believe for one second he's getting another deal as a player, it will purely be to learn his trade on the coaching staff like Baines last few seasons.

Didnt Hunter say he was staying as a player?
Moyes clearly said "one way or another" and it was later clarified to "as a player," but I didn't hear Moyes say that in the press conference. I thought he left it open to being in a staff capacity. But Coleman has said that he'll walk away if he can't compete anymore, so I expect him to quietly retire. The only way I see him staying on is if he can be convinced that there's some kind of benefit and duty to be a clubhouse leader and mentor in the inaugural season at the new stadium.
