Homepage Article Goodison Park to become the permanent home of Everton Women

This is news to me and an absolutely massive oversight. All of the new stadia have this built in for self guided tours for tourists. Practically runs itself, how has it been missed?

No, it's being incorporated next to the club shop on the west stand as part of the new stadium tour. Ignore Tom, he doesn't know what he's on about sadly

We're selling it to the woman's team, right? Like pulling a full Chelsea scumbags move and acting like the big boys?

I have a feeling Goodison will become property of EFCW, and as such the value of the Women's Teams skyrockets and therefore the aspect which Chelsea may get into trouble, we'll get around.

The media types are definitely highlighting the PSR benefits of this decision.

Financial analysis from stan collymore?

It's a solid depreciative asset that's costing a significant amount each year to be able to be open to the public.

It's quite clearly a postponement of the new owners not knowing what to do with the site.

It is not sustainable.

I don’t quite know what point he thinks he’s making there to be honest. A pretty decent percentage of Everton fans won’t have stepped foot inside Goodison in the last 5 years so suggesting we all will in the next 5 now that the men’s team is no longer playing there is clearly nonsense. As I’ve said elsewhere, I think it also massively underestimates how many people will never want to go back and see a place they’re so familiar with seem so unfamiliar. I just don’t really see what angle he’s coming from because it’s so obviously not accurate that I can’t quite pick up what he’s even aiming for.

I think the ground is fully depreciated in the club accounts and any value is simply the freehold site.
I'd imagine limited areas will be kept operational for games and they will allow safety certificates to lapse for unused areas if they consider it uneconomical.

Land can’t be depreciated. It’s possible improvements were capitalized but the overall structure itself has to be fully depreciated.

I think the point though is that it would still take a considerable amount of cash to both operate and maintain a building of that age.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they see it as a viable asset though. Many are thinking of the women’s team that plays in front of 2k or less at WHP. They’re seeing a chance to be more like Arsenal and draw bigger crowds.

Good news, and it's by far the best way to utilise the site! Arsenal have the best WSL attendances with an average of 28,000, whilst Liverpool are in third place with an average of 7500. Everton currently have the worst attendances in the WSL, with an average of just 1256.

The WSL is growing in popularity. The tickets are relatively cheap and easily obtained. Parents can take their kids there without having to worry about some coked up blert using the F-word every two seconds. It's just a relaxed day out, and nobody's weekend is ruined if the result doesn't go their way etc. I think that type of family friendly WSL offering could be delivered really well at Goodison Park.

Does Goodison Park have any loans secured against it? If it does, then it could prevent a sale, no?

Use it or lose it!

No way on gods earth will Goodison be maintained at 39,000 capacity if 35,000-ish seats are kept closed for the paltry 15 or so games there will be women games in a whole year. Having 5,000 in a small stadium can generate an ok atmosphere but 5,000 (5,000 if we're lucky to be honest) in a 39,000 seater will be like the Covid era mens games.

I can see it now 3 years down the line - EFC statement: As attendances are averaging 4,500 we have decided to knock down <Insert stand> and take down upper tiers of <insert stand>. This will still leave enough room for growth of attendances. Overall though I see it as a holding position by TFG.

Does the women's national team sell out Wembley? Or even get to half full? Maybe the FA would like to see their games at a full stadium instead, would surely look much better with more full than empty seats at the only major stadium in the country dedicated to women's football. Surely Everton will be rewarded in some way for this monumental decision.

Not sure if this has already been asked but how does this work now with seats being sold off ? There could easily be swathes of seats missing come the summer. Obviously the ladies team will not get big crowds but unless they replace them it could be a horrendous sight come the new season.

I don`t think the plan of the ladies playing at Goodison from next season was a way of keeping the ground as its is. TFG took over a short time ago and have made the call that there is still a benefit to the club from holding onto the site at Goodison. I think they see it as a way of building the women`s team into a top club in their league and see them playing at Goodison as a way to attract more people to games. One think that has not changes is that the ground is not up to the standards of modern stadiums and the next few years will give TFG a chance to come up with proposals to redevelop the ground into a more fitting venue for the ladies to makes home.

A thought occurs to me ... women's football is big in the US .... I can imagine Goodison being pretty lucrative a venue for touring US teams if they organise some tournaments. That is if anyone shows them where the UK is, on a map over there.

If the stadium was a drain with 39k people going to a game, it will be a further drain with just a few thousand, surely?

It would be great to keep, but I can't see how it makes financial sense unless Chelsea style shenannigans are afoot.
