Your greatest 'moment' at Goodison

Like many others, it's the same moment from my first game, and it will be the same moment from my last game on Sunday.

Walking up into the sunshine in the Upper Bullens, on the first occasion with my dad, on the last occasion with my oldest mate, to see the green, green pitch laid out before me, and feel the hum of anticipation from the crowd. Nothing has really changed in over 50 years, except maybe the smell - it the old days it was the sweet, aromatic whiff of the oul boys smoking their pipes, these days it's the pies.

Remember the cigar smoke wafting around at a boxing day game?💙

1970 - v Sheffield Wednesday clinching the title - with all my family & friends - the whole ground sang - never before had I heard that - regrettably only my brother & I are & a 94 year old Uncle the ones still alive ..... Goodison rocked even the grandstands joined in the chanting plus incredible football topped off by a blinding goal by CH - to take the title in pure football all season ..... Bally was our KVD .....

The Holy Trinity could find a pass to each other in the dark .....
One of my most terrifying moments at Goodison, I think was the game before that Sheff Wed one when we beat Chelsea 5-2.
I was in the Gwladys Street and got caught against the crush barrier during the surge when Whittle scored. I genuinely feared for my life, I could barely breath and it seemed to last forever even though I was pressed against it for probably no more than 30 seconds or so.
It really shook me up and I always tried to get in front of a barrier after that.

I have seen it all at Goodison over the past 50 plus years…trophies being paraded, iconic goals from the likes of Andy King, Big Bob, Lineker, Andy Gray, Dunc, Barry Horne, Doucoure, DCL and others.

But despite going there for all these decades, the moment I am going to remember most is Tarky scoring he derby equaliser down the Street End in 2025👍

Not a Blue as you know but I can confirm after c80 odd visits with my lad and now his lad, it is a very special place. Crammed into those streets is a sense of community and belonging that you see everywhere you look on match days. So, a few from me;

The siren and Z Cars
My 7 year old lad clutching his stomach with nerves sat in the Main Stand just before his very first game (5.5.95, 0-0 v Southampton).
The Sunderland 7-1
The Villarreal night
The James McFadden goal v Charlton (and discovering that my son knew soooo much Anglo Saxon)
The Moyes debut and Unsworth early goal

I regret Goodison's passing like I regret so much of what we took for granted about Football passing, but Everton lives on!

Anyone mention the day in 1971 when the scoreboard broke down because it couldn’t cope with the fact we had just scored goal number 8 v Saints row
