The manganese bronze propellers are still there and haven't corroded one bit.

Re other polluters, I mentioned earlier in the thread instances where britain once led the way. Abolishment of slavery, universal suffrage. Not worth doing?

To be fair that ship was fine when it left us in Belfast, apart from potentially the fire in the coalhouse. There is a good consipracy theory about that propeller is actually from the Olympic.

Going back to the start of our amusing debate today, if the Government didn't waste so much money across all types of schemes, we could still be at the forefront of innovation.

Olympic was cast 400. They were recovered when she was decommissioned. Anyway, shipwreck misdirection aside.

Governments have to want to lead. We've had leaders as such happy for the country to limp along on life support. It's been decades in the planning and delivery. I'm with Pie, it's all on her in the main. From on leader to another... "let the market decide" to "You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its mouth". Somehow thames water got a £3billion gift a month ago, we're still relying on victorian infrastructure, the tax payer coughed up for the elizabeth line for londoners, handy andy windsor had his snout in the trough with the mones over covid ppe, and all anyone wants to do is moan about pot holes.

broken britain is a basket case. I can't watch 'threads' anymore without considering it in a positive light.

Tidal power and pumped storage hydro power can boil all the kettles you want at night. The wind does also blow at night time. Yes there is a requirement for nuclear, but there's a lot of shysters in the system, go have a look at the hinkley point c cost and the promises made on charges when its finally online.

I think you'll find it's pedestrians too though. I'm a cyclist, pedestrian and a motorists- I think most people are. The issue is people and attitudes, not their chosen form of transport.

Sure, I'm regularly held up by cyclists - I never object to a family group, or someone cycling in to collect shoppingbir a newspaper. I do object to the time thieves who cycle for fun, in packs making safe passing very challenging. Are these the only group of people who do not have to pay separately for the enormous amount of infrastructure that is laid on by society? I can't think of another hobby.

But my most severe issue has been louts riding fast on pavements (or riding on pavements at all). I've seen a peleton do it in my town, to avoid waiting at roadwork lights - shouting at an old lady using the path. I've been nearly killed stepping out of a shop as sone teenager on an electric bike wheelied past me at speed. An ex of mine was hit from behind by a cyclist while running on a towpath, fell, dislocated her shoulder and it changed her life.

They're all gone in a flash, with no identification no numberplate to quote to the rozzers. Sure, I get your point that plates can be faked but not everybody would do that, and ut would be a separate crime in itself.

Maybe we should move away from car insurance and have mandatory road USER insurance that covers you for car, bicycle or electric scooter. Either way, I'd campaign long and hard for numberplates - preferably enormous ones with an enormous drag coefficient to help those who say they do it as exercise!

Chris I'm also a runner so I'm having to avoid Dogs on leads on a bike and while running.

Put simply, each of us need to show a greater respect to each other again and the less protection you are wearing the more you should be given may to in the correct surroundings.

No one wants to be injured. Everyone has a right to use the roads/paths. No ne owns them and has a greater right to them.

This made me laugh. I know it's out of context but what a thing to be angry at. Numberplates for regular bikes is equally as weird.

Numberplates/rego for electric ones I think isn't that unreasonable as they're basically scooters and go much faster and accelerate obviously much quicker, but isn't that easily governable I think. There's movements for them to require license around our parts, as they're genuinely just e-bikes at a certain point. Manufacturers even make them look just about almost like motorcycles, but they're not discernible when you're on the road and they do 50-70 km/h. There's been several high profile accidents here with e-scooters/bikes going 100km/h (60mph) on the regular roads with the speed limit at 80 km/h (50mph), speeding and being dangerous overall.

Mandatory insurance for any kind of mobility is great until they start taxing those pesky people daring to walk on the pavement. Or those actual psychopaths who dare to run, can't think of another hobby that uses the infrastructure without paying for it other than those two groups of hobbyists.

On a somewhat similar note, love the fact that driving in the UK is massively safer as the 'road culture' is overall better, and thus this leads to one of your biggest problems being cyclists. I feel like some people won't last a minute driving around our parts :lol:

Anyway, electric cars, eh? Fun to drive.

Most of 'psychopath hobbyists' pay our taxes and therefore pay for our infrastructure.

Electric Cars are quirky but not yet as fun to drive.
