I wouldn't go downhill mountain biking on a motorbike either. Sounds like it could get messy and expensive quite quick.

Why the dislike for net zero?
I'm all for green energy. I'm not for Ed Milliband and honourable friends taxing the balls of us to get there only to discover the sun doesn't shine at night and therefore we now can't boil our kettles. W should have built an extra one or two Nuclear stations before starting the whole green energy malarkey.

I hate to be a stickler for the facts, but here we are. The sun does shine. All the time. There is no 'night' in space.

Is your dislike for the current agenda perchance tainted by the bacon roll eater in chief? There's a lot negative press around certain labour figures. If energy pricing was decoupled from the gas unit price. [it's all here https://www.nesta.org.uk/blog/the-e...n-ratio-would-make-bills-cheaper-and-greener/ ]

Tidal power and pumped storage hydro power can boil all the kettles you want at night. The wind does also blow at night time. Yes there is a requirement for nuclear, but there's a lot of shysters in the system, go have a look at the hinkley point c cost and the promises made on charges when its finally online.

As soon as I'm made to put a numberplate on my bike I'll be sitting in the middle of the road and not caring about queues building up behind me. Currently I take care in making sure that motorists behind can get past me easily when its safe to do so.

What will end up happening very quickly though is ringer plates, uninsured bikes still causing the same issues etc.

What is actually required is an infrastructure that can deal with both cyclists and cars, And an understanding from motorists that they do not own the roads.
It's this truculant, entitled, kind of toddler reaction that both gives cyclists a bad reputation and creates the hate everyday people have to the lycra fettishists. Do you seriously want to avoid accountability this much?

(Looks as though that behaviour actually attracts voters in the US though.)

Nice reference.

Its the whole Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

Can't have tidal energy as the turbines mince the fishes
Can't have wind power as the wind turbines mince the birds
Can't have nuclear as the radiation (if it happened) minces all but cockroaches.

But until a decision is made we'll stop producing our own power and become dependant on Russia and Europe for power. As for switching to Green Fuel, do you not think they'll tax us on that too? They'll find a way, mark my words.

I suspect if you read through my other replies you'll see I'm not being an entitled cyclist.

Not trying to get at you, lad. But to respond to a suggestion of making cyclists accountable, by intentionally acting to hold up hundreds of innocent motorists just trying to go about their lawful activity - maybe get to work on time, maybe attend a dying or sick relative, maybe get to a wedding , maybe just in a rush to get away from Anfirld as the zombie hoards descend, is a bit of a misdirected response.

The highway code tells ALL users to act with considerations other users.

Car Drivers are demanding cyclists have number plates and insurance and therefore accountability on the road. Intentionally adding to the cost of using a green method of transport. My point is if cyclists had to pay then they would be entitled to use much more of the roads as they would be directly paying into the system allowing them to do so. Its a lose/lose for the car driver.

As you put, it simply needs every road user, regardless of their transport method, to be more courteous to other road users and to be aware of the Highway Codes guidance.

Apologies if you read my flippant retort as some kind of F.U towards motorists, that was not the intention.

La Rance tidal barrage, North coast France. installed 1967.

Liverpool-officials-look-to-Far-East-for-tidal-barrage-ideas.jpg

Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station, South Korea (worlds largest). Completed 2011.

Beauty of tides is, they occur like clockwork, and occur at night, and who doesn't like more transport connectivity? and jobs, and cheaper energy.

The largest tidal range (difference between low & high) in the world is the Bay of Fundy in Canada. Second largest in the world? Severn estuary england. Second largest in the uk? River Mersey. It's not on our doorstep, it is our doorstep. The entire West coast could be utilised to realise tidal power and then hydro storage in the helpful topography of the locales. It takes outlay, and time to recover the initial cost. La Rance paid for itself under 20 years.

The second largest tidal range on the planet.

you were being amusing, and successful with it.

No mate, just one car driver is demanding cyclists have number plates and insurance and his name is @Joey66 and he is quite " unique " in his views.

Oh I know it can be done. I live a few miles away from one of the fastest tides in the world. Perfect you'd think for a tidal power station. But the station was decomissioned in 2016? and never replaced. Excuses like 'harmful to sealife, saltwater corroded it, too expensive top maintain' were given at the time from memory.

Meanwhile we are being taxed to the hilt to remove excessive CO2 from the air while China and other superpowers do what they please. Just another example where the Government have shown themselves to be incompetent.

This is the starboard propeller on the Titanic wreck.

'401'
It sank 113 years and two weeks ago. It's at the bottom of the Atlantic.

The manganese bronze propellers are still there and haven't corroded one bit.

Re other polluters, I mentioned earlier in the thread instances where britain once led the way. Abolishment of slavery, universal suffrage. Not worth doing?
