Electric car advice

Most of 'psychopath hobbyists' pay our taxes and therefore pay for our infrastructure.

Electric Cars are quirky but not yet as fun to drive.
Aye, it was a stab at what Chris wrote above about cycling mate.

They are though, instant torque is great, even in non-performance models it's still very cool. Currently they're priced out for me personally - I look at a car as a utility and thus don't want to pay through the arse for essentially the same car. A friend recently bought a brand new Peugeot 5008 and the price of it in the standard hybrid model (GT trim with literally everything Peugeot offer) is way too much lower than the electric car in the same trim. Quotes here were ~€44-45k for the GT trim hybrid standard drivetrain (they don't offer diesels anymore), versus ~€60-63k for the fully electric one. When I got mine a few years ago the price between mine and the electric version of it was almost double. Idiotic and makes it feel like a quirkmobile rather than a normal car, but that's on the manufacturers imo.

I'd guess they're not "as fun" if you've had a racing car, but I have not, at least not for road racing, and it was pretty fun tbh.

This made me laugh. I know it's out of context but what a thing to be angry at. Numberplates for regular bikes is equally as weird.

Numberplates/rego for electric ones I think isn't that unreasonable as they're basically scooters and go much faster and accelerate obviously much quicker, but isn't that easily governable I think. There's movements for them to require license around our parts, as they're genuinely just e-bikes at a certain point. Manufacturers even make them look just about almost like motorcycles, but they're not discernible when you're on the road and they do 50-70 km/h. There's been several high profile accidents here with e-scooters/bikes going 100km/h (60mph) on the regular roads with the speed limit at 80 km/h (50mph), speeding and being dangerous overall.

Mandatory insurance for any kind of mobility is great until they start taxing those pesky people daring to walk on the pavement. Or those actual psychopaths who dare to run, can't think of another hobby that uses the infrastructure without paying for it other than those two groups of hobbyists.

On a somewhat similar note, love the fact that driving in the UK is massively safer as the 'road culture' is overall better, and thus this leads to one of your biggest problems being cyclists. I feel like some people won't last a minute driving around our parts

Anyway, electric cars, eh? Fun to drive.
As you're probably aware ... I'm angry at lots of things mate! Especially other motorists who are more consistently bad at motoring than are cyclists. I put that down to stupidity. Cyclists are tits though.

For me its the drama of driving a manual car on a good day with the roof down/sunroof open/windows down, down a winding road. Admiring the scenery while feeling the roar of the engine.

A torquey microwave with wheels doesn't do that for me.

Likewise, put me in an electric Porsche and you'll probably see me changing my mind faster than any politician.

Don't hold back there.

FYI, I'm a mountain biker, not a lycra wearing speed merchant. A lot of these club riders can be as you describe. Supporting my earlier declaration than all road users need to be more courteous to each other.

That's off road but how do you get to your mountain on your bike :D

Blair is spot on - end of
Joey I was not referring to Blair or the discussion around energy. I made reference to 'There's a lot negative press around certain labour figures' and offered my opinion that it is because the media is so Tory-centric. The Tories, when in power, can do what they want with very little negative press because the media protect them but Labour do the slightest thing wrong and they are bashed by most of the media.

I get that, but leaving the Jeep/offroading behind made me realise that people are knobs about cars and should just shut up and drive.

I currently drive a Peugeot 308 estate, the amount of knobs that have come up to tell me it's worse than their old BMW/Mercedes or not as fun to drive - mate, I'm getting good mileage, multi-zone AC and all that jazz, decent multimedia, got the car for cheap, maintenance is cheap, I honestly don't care about the rest. No idea why people think I want to know their worthless opinion on the car brand.

On topic, I had the genuine pleasure to drive an electric Hyundai Kona several times for both shorter and longer ranges - it's just quiet, comfortable, instant torque is very nice when overtaking, no complaints. It wasn't even their N-line (or whatever their top line was), just a regular one. Quite fun to push on a winding road too, to be honest, as it wasn't an AWD model.
