Not if they're on the pavement but if they even think about crossing the road then have them.So you fully back pedestrians requiring a licence and insurance for travelling in the same areas?
WTAF?Big deal cyclist should not have been on the road .... Cycle lane or path .....
Are you being economical with the truth? My diesel car gives me 550 miles for £40 and the pumps can fill it in less than 90 seconds.. arsed waiting around for 30 minutes for it charge.
But were you insured?I hit 40+ on a steep downhill segment and was properly frightened.
And I didn’t pay any registration fees either.
As soon as I'm made to put a numberplate on my bike I'll be sitting in the middle of the road and not caring about queues building up behind me. Currently I take care in making sure that motorists behind can get past me easily when its safe to do so.Been saying for a while- all bikes should have numberplates so cyclists can be identified by anpr or members of the public or even that rare thing, a bobby, and transgressions followed up.
Might see better behaviour from the lycra fettishists if they're identifiable and accountable.
For balance, because yours is the side of the cyclist it appears, who will police this brave new world? As soon as I'm made to put a numberplate on my bike I'll be sitting in the middle of the road and not caring about queues building up behind me. What will end up happening very quickly though is ringer plates, uninsured bikes still causing the same issues etc.
What is actually required is an infrastructure that can deal with both cyclists and cars, And an understanding from motorists that they do not own the roads.
I'm not on the side of the cyclist per se.For balance, because yours is the side of the cyclist it appears, who will police this brave new world?
The current authorities are already failing to prevent, fly tippers, plate cloners, disqualified drivers, joy riders, illegal bikers, ballied up crims carrying knives on bikes (ebikes also), non insured, not mot'd, never passed test, death trap vehicles, ringers, mobile phone users at the wheel, drink drivers, blind drivers, oap unfit drivers, there's plenty more.
Inventing another swathe of the public to tax, licence and insure and then administrate seems asking for trouble.
Residential areas are 20 mph zones currently, push bikes can go a lot quicker than that. (Usain Bolt clocked 27.78mph on foot in Berlin in 2009) Either every street everywhere has a cop with a speed camera on it, or, cctv is rolled out nationwide. Every square inch of public land is watched every minute of the day.

I'm not on the side of the cyclist per se.
In the case being debated about a woman missed Stop signs and collided with another car before hitting and killing the cyclist. A 2yr suspended sentence seems weak for such a crime and sticking up for a road user seems blinkered at best by those choosing that action.
My view is always that those using the roads with the least protection are the ones that should get right of way. Therefore the hierarchy would be:
Pedestrians
Cyclists
Cars/Buses
Trucks
We all pay taxes to keep the roads (as shocking as they are) and we all have equal right to use them. So going back to my original point, a better infrastructure is needed. Bike lanes don't work at the side of roads because storm drains and debris tend to be found there. Can't mix pedestrians with cyclists and you can't mix cyclists and pedestrians with vehicles.
Also, considering the jeopardy all cyclists are subject to on the roads, there seems to have been a knee jerk panic with thisI'm not on the side of the cyclist per se.

'It got to me': Jeremy Vine stops cycling videos after online abuse
The TV and radio presenter says that over time the negative comments have upset him.www.bbc.co.uk
What Vine fails to grasp here is that any target would catch some grief, he could be walking and videoing it and there'd be someone calling him a cock. Certain villains hate Chris Packham so much they leave killed birds on his front lawn for him.

Chris Packham condemns dead crows hung from gate
Naturalist Chris Packham posted a photo of the crows on social media, saying opponents are "lashing out".www.bbc.co.uk
There'll always be objection, there always has been, only previous it was not possible for it to register. Now there is an industry that ensures it is delivered, and a parallel industry that feeds off the conflict that creates.
This poor chap has been battling 8 years to alter the law re online media and harm.

There's tough talk by the politicians and precious little action. Gearing up to hammer some kid on a push bike though...
broken britain.
I sense conflict here. You cycle a lot? If so, why? Fill up the Harley and go for a ride instead?Completely Broken
They hammer us with this Net Zero crap but then won't commit to better infrastructure for all to use.
Vine is a class A narrasistic pillock who does not represent cyclists. And thats the biggest problem. those who highlight these issues tend to be in the wrong themselves in part. Realistically no one wants to get hurt but it will happen. Thats why I like to use my road hierarchy.
Tubes would be fun though, until someone got stuck and bodyshamed for it, which wouldn't be their fault.......ad nauseum.
I certainly don't have a bike for any Net Zero ideas. In fact the gas escaping out the back of me would be detrimental to the whole process.I sense conflict here. You cycle a lot? If so, why? Fill up the Harley and go for a ride instead?
Trying not to derail this thread about leccy cars, are renewables not the answer for moving away from fossil fuel high polluting nature destroying energy dependency?
I wouldn't go downhill mountain biking on a motorbike either. Sounds like it could get messy and expensive quite quick.I certainly don't have a bike for any Net Zero ideas. In fact the gas escaping out the back of me would be detrimental to the whole process.
Nope, I like to chuck myself down mountains for fun. Then pedal back up nice and fast under the power of my Bosch engine.
I'd kill myself on a motorbike. Body of a 50yo, confidence of a 25yo, skill of an 8yo.
