2024/25 Youssef Chermiti

He's played 15 minutes before today, not sure how anyone can assess his abilities.

Is he good enough to be starting though? You can't just throw a player in for the sake of it and to give them a try. It'll be obvious from training whether he's ready for that or not.

But what I don't understand is why people think he's capable of more than what he is showing. Is there something he's done in an Everton shirt that I've missed which means he deserves a big run of games?
We don't create a lot. If he'd been missing one on ones on a weekly basis that's different

Sure, but your question is why people think he's capable of doing more than he's shown, when he's played 15 minutes. There's no evidence either way for us supporters.

By all accounts he had a very good preseason, and he's about to turn 21. He does need to be playing in matches next season, here or somewhere else on loan.

He's still young, especially for a 6'4" striker. Typically those players develop a bit later as they develop physically later.

He should play this season simply because he's the most likely of the 4 to still be contracted to Everton at the close of the summer window.

What has he shown to suggest he should start games ?

Could ask the same about motm Alcaraz = dropped.

Broja very poor = rewarded with starts.

Hard to tell with Chermiti, he looked better than Beto imo end of last season (great control i remember) and goals in preseason).

How to assess him without games?

The manager prefers to use Broja who we shouldnt sign.

Broja technically top class but never a 9.

We dont even know what Chermiti is, hes been injured.

Chelseas player or ours to play 9 ?

Kid needs a chance after his injury.

Moyes said he wanted to try out fringe players and insisted on playing Broja for 2 of them. By virtue of the fact we own Chermiti, I want to see him get a run to see what he can do with some consistent minutes. Same now with Alcaraz. There is no excuse to play Doucoure in the CAM spot over him now that the clause can’t be triggered

Poor management in terms of player selections.

Signing him at a time when we had no money, even when we knew it was a long term project, made no sense whatsoever. It was just a poor recruitment decision and I doubt we can bring in half of what we spent.

He cost ZERO upfront.

As you wrote, he was a long term development signing.

Hes been injured.

100%
Upfront cost means very little other than for cashflow. You still have to pay the full cost.

He was signed as a striker for a team who were in desperate need of goals and he hasn't scored in 2 seasons. It's clearly not been a successful piece of recruitment.

Absolutely false.

1: There was ZERO money to sign players. ZERO. Beto and Chermiti signed for ZERO upfront.

Upfront cost means players typically cannot be signed which would have left the club with DCL as the only centre forward for the entire season.

2: Your second paragraph is utter nonsense. He certainly was not signed for a team who "blah blah blah" he was signed as a LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT player.

That is not someone signed for the immediate requirements of the team.

Is "long term development" under Sean Dyche for 1 season and then a long term injury a reasonable timeframe to judge him?

No.

Is 15 mins over 2 games and then thrown in vs an imperious Chalobah today going to provide a clear verdict on a player?

No.

If by summer hes doing the same as today then loan or sell.

But lets give him a chance.

We were in desperate need of goals. A long term project was the wrong decision at the time.

The player cost about 15m I believe. That has to be paid over time.

My criticism is the recruitment, not of the player.

Not ready for the big time on today’s showing….light weight and positioning was poor….needs loaning out next season to a half decent championship side and see what he can do then!
