2024/25 Idrissa Gueye

Could be as daft as waiting for the league finish position (£).
Then having a month with the OOC and loans gone and saving the wages (£).
Then potentially having a much cleaner slate from which to make offers from. There's Thelwell to say thanks and good luck to, there's the new guy from leeds to settle in. Moyes might have candidates already?
You don't try to save some wages when you have your best player this season about to walk free...he is nearly impossible to replace, at least in the short term.

There were other options, and he is a bit short, but makes it work for him. It's why Doucoure is so important, we'd get mullered by grocks without some header winning presence in the middle.

Don't get this "only when we are mathematically safe we will be looking at contracts"...we have been safe for a few weeks, yet we are letting our best midfielder contract run out...this should have been done weeks ago. New owners and still so slow to do anything...not looking forward to our summer transfer window if we are still working at snail pace.

Then we're not doing a great job to convince him to sign the extension. He deserves a big increase...I would even be tempted to offer him 2 years. Knowing the club, it's probably one year extension on reduce terms.

I would give Gana an extension.

With his workrate, coupled with him turning 36 in september i do wonder how long he'll last.

My concern isnt performances slowly dropping off (fine to be a squad player), its more of him 'doing a Distin' and age catching up with him suddenly.

When that happens at some point -- he'll be finished at this level.

So, yes he deserves an extension...but there is an element of risk to that -- also dont forget hes playing in the AFCON.

I hope he stays, but I can understand him wanting to go to get one giant last pay day. If a player deserves it, it's him. Fantastic professional.

His stats are one of the best in Europe. That's what matters, not so much his age. His work ethic is something else and I can see him playing until 40, perhaps not in the pl but definitely still playing professional football somewhere.

Idrissa has an amazing attitude, a bit like James Milner who is still in a Premier League squad at the age of 39. I'd definitely be keeping him, hopefully as a first teamer for the next year, then see how his legs are, he may need to be a squad player after that. Having someone with his work rate and attitude around the club is massive for bringing through young players so I'd be keen to keep him as long as possible.
