Eggs said he can play in other position’s and that’s why he’s worth keeping ie CM, which I think he meant as a 2 With either gana or gamer not as in a 3 dropping back like today. I disagree and think he’s a liability in a 3. He’s a liability as a 10, because he’s a poor player. Got a goal today and we won the game, but you can’t look at things in isolation. Had we had better than doucoure, Beto and Harrison we wouldn’t have just won 1 game in 7

…I just mean he plays an an extra CM every game when the opposition have the ball. I think he helps Ndiaye get in attacking positions because he invariably sits in nearer that side. He’ll be very versatile, even off the bench to see out games.

….he fully justifies his place in the side just ask David Moyes. Indeed, I suspect he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet.
I don't understand why people rate him as breaks down more chances by far than he creates ,by your reasoning Beto is a cert for next year .my thoughts are that he is keeping a better player ,who will produce more ,out of the side . I am not one of the Moyesiah crew by the way as he is still showing the signs that peed us off before he abondonded ship for Utd ,I still think he has too many undeserving favourites -Harrison and Lindström for example.

You’ve just said ‘undeserving favourites’ and named two of our three wingers who have been fit whilst he’s been manager.

Who is he meant to play?!

…he’s awful in possession.

Football is about what a team/player do in possession and out of possession. Players like James Rodriguez are wonderful in possession and awful out of it, Doucoure is at the other end of the spectrum. We shouldn’t compare them but you get the gist.

There’s absolutely no doubt Alcaraz is a better footballer, but he’s not more effective in this side than Doucoure. Selecting a football team in not about selecting the best players, Roger Hunt, Nobby Stiles and even Geoff Hurst would not have played in the ‘66 World Cup Final but England wouldn’t have won.

We all want a team without Doucoure, it’ll only happen with plenty of re-building.

Can you imagine any other team in the league picking a player and making him their top earner when they're terrible in possession? There's no room for players like that in the modern game. Every team used to have a "destroyer" who couldn't actually play football, but the speed of the game these days means you can't carry players who can't control a football.

…I don’t get hung up on the ‘top earner’ thing, especially when a player plays the games he has throughout his contract. Was it 20 points from games he scored in last season, apparently we’ve never lost in 20 games he’s scored in (14 wins and 6 draws) so he scores important goals.

I have more angst at players on mega buck contracts who don’t contribute like Keane, Holgate, Dele Alli etc.

He's the only player I've ever seen who gets in the way of himself! He's shocking.
Just because he scores a goal every ten games or so doesn't mean he should be in the side. The other nine games we may have got better results with him not playing.
Totally agree. When I saw the ball heading to him I didn`t get too excited as he seems to have a habit of tackling himself when no defender is near him. Today is a case of us winning despite him playing the full game. He takes a lot away from us going forward, gave Broja no help up front. You could see a real difference when Alcaraz came on and worked well with Beto.

signing him on £50k a week for a 2 year deal seems sensible as the wages cost will be £5m - I just can’t see us getting that good value in the market. We will need his experience as a squad player during the rebuild and whilst I wouldn’t play him in a 10 there will be games away from home where he’s invaluable (as he’s proven with outcomes over and over)

What bothers me most about Doucore now is he used to be able to sprint down the field with the ball. It wasn't always pretty, but he could do it. He is not a ball carrier anymore. He is very limited on the ball. I'll attribute that to decline with age, but we need to move on from him. He offers so little against too many teams. You have to recognize when to hang up their boots. Go out on a positive.

Yep we've signed some dross on top dollar, but that doesn't mean we should renew the contract of a guy who has at least been average. We need to move forward.

…I think he’s been far from average, he’s been central to us keeping our top flight status. I remember him getting sent-off against Spurs and posters wondering how we’d cope without him.

Saying that, I do agree, his salary might be a stumbling block regarding a contract extension.

You could also say he is one of the reasons we are fighting relegation.

I'm playing a lot of Devils advocate with this bloke lately. Mainly because I never quite know what to think of him!

Spot on mate.

I remember watching is away at Brentford last season, and he just bullied their defenders. He got a goal and played really well.

I remember when I first started mens football, and I'd have loved a player like Doucoure. You could fire balls at him, and he would make something happen.
