Possible Goodison redevelopment.

Here's a thought.
One that might get me shot out of a canon.
Would there be any sense in Everton FC Womens and Liverpool FC Womens merging and playing at Goodison.
Team could wear purple and call themselves Merseyside FC or Stanley Park FC or something.
Seems to me that there is/will be a market to support one Womens PL team and there's a stadium now that could be used.
I know lots of fans of Everton and Liverpool womens teams would baulk at the idea but it could be a good way to get a competitive well supported womens team playing in an iconic ground.
Probably a non starter but thought I'd see the reaction.
You have missed april fools by about 6 days mate

I know, I know
I just dont see either womens team being hugely successful.
And I don't really see a future for Goodison with crowds under 10k for every game unless there's huge work done to downsize it.

I do get the point your trying to make. That an amalgamated team would bring in a bigger crowd over all but could see it actually doing the opposite. I'm guessing many of the people that go to the women's game do so due to the affiliation with the club. Amalgamating 2 teams would end up imo wiping away the affiliation and end up reducing attendances for the first few seasons at least anyway

yup, that would definitely be a risk and there would be outrage at the start
But the result could, could... be a viable womans team that draws crowds in the 20k range and Goodison survives.

Again, I'm not pushing for this. Just one thought on how Goodison could be kept going.

figured that's the response I'd get.
But why is it such a bad idea.
Havent lived in Liverpool since I was a kid and dont think there were any womens teams. Def not pro ones.
Are the women's teams that engrained in the city?

Last year Everton Womens average attendance was about 2k
Liverpools was 4.5k
Arsenals was 35k

I'm not sure Liverpool has the market for 2 compeditive womens PL teams.
The Arsenal figure is a total anomaly though. Last season the average attendance at Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Villa, Brighton, Leicester, Bristol City, and West Ham COMBINED was lower than that.

Right, but its not an anomaly in it's self. It's not like it was a one off cup game.
The average WPL attendance is 6.5k
Everton's attendance is three times lower than average. Liverpools is well below average.
Seems like madness to play a team with an average attendance of 2k in a 40k stadium.
Both Friedkin and Henry will know all about the potential of the women's game.
Separating it out from traditional city rivalries to create a viable team could make sense.
Also may not be possible.

The point I was making is that's absolutely nothing to do with Liverpool not being able to sustain 2 teams. If the women's game really takes off on a wider level and the clubs put their energies into benefiting from that then they could improve attendances at both clubs, so merging wouldn't make any sense.

As it is, even having the second highest average in the league, of double the overall league average, would still only be about 30% of the current capacity of Goodison.

I think thats about the point where putting a team (any team) in Goodison becomes possibly viable. I dont see Everton managing to get regular crowds of 12 to 15k any time soon.

Sure but half the city are already in one camp or the other.
Everton own the stadium, both clubs own the team.
Use this as a crest with a name change.

Meh, I'm probably just gonna upset people.
I think if they do keep Goodison for the ladies team, it might bring in a bigger crowd for the ladies on a regular basis purely down to folks that want to go to some of the old stops they went to before a game now. That boost will only be short term and it`s up to the club to make them into a winning team quickly. Most other teams in the women`s league are playing their games at lower league grounds, that are miles from their traditional patch, and playing at Goodison would give the ladies a nice connection with the club that the others won`t have, including the lady RS team. Make it a success, and keep all the glory for ourselves.

Trying to work out if you're a wind up. If they wanted to, Liverpool could easily be one of the biggest women's teams in the world, but they're not arsed about it.

Not on a wind up.
If any big PL side wanted to be one of the biggest teams in the world, they could.
Just go out and buy the best players. They are 6th, we're 8th.
Say either side start winning the league, do you see crowds going from 4k (or in our case 2k) to 15k regularly.
English Womens football/European Womens football just isnt at that point yet
And when it does get there, and it will, one team from merseyside is a more viable option.
That's what makes sense to me from a 'keeping Goodison alive' point of view.
Thats thinking with my head not heart tho.
