2024/25 Beto

@davek This is a good enough angle, and I'm not seeing Beto having his standing foot stood on, sorry 🤷‍♂️

Beto pulled back his leg to kick the ball and kicked the ground instead. The momentum shift caused him to fall At first glance the ref thought the opposing defender caught Beto’s leg. In real time I thought so, too. In the very first replay I knew it would be overturned. The ref saw the replay and made the right call. It was quick and decisive, one of the very few times VAR worked as intended.

You can see on frame 3 and 4 the defenders right foot comes down on the edge of Beto's right standing foot. A MOTD angle will show the defender's right foot slide off Beto's boot.

It's on in a few minutes.

Good frames though. Where did you get them?

I did think the defender behind clumsily steps into him and blocks his kicking foot on the down swing, making him kick the floor?
Yeah I thought so too.

Looking at it again though it does look like it was minimal contact.

MOTD highlights didn't show all angles as I'd hoped. The live coverage today did and it's a pity we didn't see all their angles.

I think that Beto slightly catches the defenders leg as he swings back. Causing him to miss the ball by miles and boot the ground which wipes himself out. Not a penalty.

I do think West ham should have had one. I'm pretty sure OBrien just booted someone on the corner of the area.

Screenshots from YouTube highlights of the game ;)

I think a mention should be made of how good the turn in the box was from Beto to give himself a chance of a shot on goal. I felt it was quite impressive for a big lad.
