Pretty much mate and he's said as much a couple of times regarding the days of sitting at a League 1 match scouting a player is long gone as everyone knows about everyone now. He said media duties is way more time consuming so in the modern game he needs to focus on the management/coaching side of things.

Of course he'll want a say on who we sign, it's ridiculous to not have the manager have an input on a player he is being told to manage. I've no problem with Moyes having an opinion on that.

I think January was very telling, Moyes seemed certain we needed AT LEAST 3 players through the door, then went to 2, then went to hoping Alcaraz would get over the line. and he was very honest about players on that list were just to make up the numbers. I honestly think he was looking at the list and thinking "what is this pile of crap you've had the last 4 months to work on".
I'm still convinced that the 3 wins in a row changed our thinking re transfers in January too. We had giving ourselves a really good cushion to the relegation spots and I think we didn't make signings then we weren't totally convinced about

There's no way Moyes wants total control. He's already said previously the jobs a lot more demanding than when he first started out. I think what he will want are people around him who are very good at their job.

Judging by the Jan transfer window I reckon he had reservations about Thelwell and I reckon TFG have too.

That last bit is just my opinion of course, but I did say that if he was doing such a good job, why weren't TFG offering Thelwell an extension?
I don't really care about Thelwell going, although I don't subscribe to the idea that he was terrible. I think it's exceptionally difficult to tell given the circumstances. I'm also not opposed to having a system that differs from the DoF model either. What I am opposed to is a system that affords too much power to the incumbent manager, no matter who that is. That leads to the sort of issues we've been dealing with for the past few years. There needs to be someone, or some group of people, who are in charge of recruitment with the long term sustainability of the squad as their goal, not acquiescing to the whims of the manager of the day.

Managers come and managers go, when they go we shouldn't be looking at complete rebuilds every time. We've all seen the madness that results from that approach. We should decide what sort of football we want to play and then everything should be geared around that. Recruitment of managers, recruitment of players, age group football, everything, all serving that central mission. In my opinion, it's the only way to have stability and, hopefully, progress at a football club in the modern era. No more flitting from tiki taki to hoofball and back again. That starts above the manager.

The truth is City are operating with one of the smallest squads in the league. In fact they have used the fewest number of players this season - just 22. The next closest team have used 25.

Its up to you to find the smallest in history, but I can tell you now, it wont be Everton 2025.
Players used is not the same as squad size but hey ho.

As for finding the smallest squad in history being up to me, I already acknowledged that I don't know, hence I asked the question. You also don't know but chose to answer anyway. We'll see about Everton 2025, but I'm betting we'll see two goalkeepers on the bench on multiple occasions next season.

Yes, I agree, I also think we see 2 GKs on the bench, in an era of 9 subs I think its pretty prudent.

If you need more than 7 outfield players on the bench, then I feel like you should have picked a better first 11.

I honestly dont know if any other teams play 2 GKs on the bench, I havent looked that closely.

But hey, you have doubts regarding the Summer window based on a throwaway remark Moyes made and nothing I can say will calm those concerns, we are both just gonna have to wait and see how the Summer window turns out.

We are both hoping for a smooth window, with everybody signed, sealed and delivered before 1st July, I suspect we are both going to be very disappointed.

After crazy man Moshiri, I get peoples doubts and I get why people arent going all in and sounding caution.

But screw it man, life is too short to worry about what could go wrong.

Start thinking about what could go right and worry about other things, like which bin you have to put out next week.
Happy to stand behind this.

We wanted big change, we’ve got big change.

I wanted a man with a plan, a plan, not my plan, im sure my plan wouldnt be like this, who knows.

But we have a man and he has a plan, so I back his plan, his plan might be utter dog, but we ride together, we die together, TFG for life.

Moving away from DoF seems the right thing to do, putting your trust in one man to run the whole club, choose the manager, style of play and final say over who the club signs will always be risky and a huge job.

Will be interesting to see the setup they make.

I asked a question, you answered it.

You have considered hes not doing a good job.

I dont really care either way, sack him or dont.

You seemed to be defending him, he's a well known Liverpool fan who was always posting propaganda for the echo to support Kenwright.

I don't only have doubts based on that one remark. Numerous club figures have remarked on PSR still being a consideration for the club, we've just built a giant expensive stadium (although refinancing will certainly help), there's been no noise leaking from the club about signings or spending, no noise from agents linking us to player x, y and z, and we still have relatively poor commercial income and high wages. I maintain that we are unlikely to have a blockbuster summer.

I couldn't care less about the 1st July. I obviously want some new players in before the first game of the season but if we have to wait to get the players we actually need, so be it.

P.S. two keepers on the bench is an absolute waste of time. It is a manager being a petulant child. I think less of any manager who does it. Give an academy prospect a match day experience if you aren't planning on using a player on the bench. What's Begovic or Virginia getting out of it? Nothing.

I think it’s incredibly impressive. If he has a similar hit rate in the next 5 years with a bigger budget we will win be in the champions league places.
Also, what makes them all flops? Fair enough kroldrup etc but we finished regularly in the top half/top 8 of the league having been bottom half dwellers in all but 1 PL season prior to him.

I’d say 7 of that first 10 all contributed towards that even if some were just purple patches or one season etc. hell, even VDM offered something at times.

May not have been the best players but that doesn’t make them flops.

I wonder if the 2 GK on the bench is from his PTSD from Ian Turner being sent off, when he was our third choice and ended up having to play a 4th choice, and highly inexperienced John Ruddy.
