Between this comment and the comments that Bobble (I think) reported that Moyes thinks we only need 3/4 players to be challenging for Europe, I'm a little worried about what the plans are for the summer. What's the smallest squad every registered in the Premier League?
Probably the City squad that won 4 Titles back to back.

The biggest is Chelsea.

If you look at his entire transfer history I'd say it is not quite as impressive.

From most expensive:
Fellaini, Yakubu, Johnson, Bilyaletdinov, Beattie, van der Meyde, Mirallas, Baines, Kroldrup, Heitinga, Jelavic, Lescott, Distin, Yobo, Jagielka, Pienaar, Wright, Neville, Davies, Oviedo, Howard, Stones, Arteta, Cahill, Valente, Baardsen, McFadden, Gosling, M. Gueye, Kilbane, Silva, Martyn, Bent, Jutkiewicz, Gibson, Ruddy, Vellios, Kennedy, Turner, Coleman.

Those were signings that he paid money for. Loads of duds in his frees and loan players. Half of his ten most expensive signings were duds.

I could list the freebies as well: Li Tie, Bosnar, Plessis, Stubbs, Wessels, Jacobsen, Saha, Peterlin, Mucha, Beckford, Hahnemann, Junior, Naismith, Nash, Neill, Hitzlsperger.

Loans: Donovan, Said, Ferrari, Fernandes, Castillo, Rodrigo, Weifeng Li, McBride, Jeffers, Westerveld, Jo, Senderos, Drenthe, Straqualursi.

Plus of course Pienaar, Arteta, Howard and Yobo were initially loans.

So he did find good players on loan.

(Based on Transfermarkt.)
Important to remember he often had nothing to spend…we went two years relying on the loan market. Yet still got us top halfs.

To what, though? That's my worry. Are they giving Moyes absolute power in that area? I'm pretty sure that's what he wants, as that's pretty much what he had here before. I personally think that's a terrible idea. Hopefully that's not the plan, but the remarks in that press release were exceptionally vague on that area.

There's no way Moyes wants total control. He's already said previously the jobs a lot more demanding than when he first started out. I think what he will want are people around him who are very good at their job.

Judging by the Jan transfer window I reckon he had reservations about Thelwell and I reckon TFG have too.

That last bit is just my opinion of course, but I did say that if he was doing such a good job, why weren't TFG offering Thelwell an extension?

Spot on, people think hes gonna be spending his nights scouring scout reports. It wont be the case, like KT, the scouts will bring to him players they like and Moyes and whoever else is part of the recruitment team will take a look.

You only have to walk down towards Bramley Moore once, take up the surroundings and you can see the massive potential for that area. TFG got the money and the means to realise all that. Really excited for to see how it will all develop over the next few years. Hopefully this club will also be able/allowed to maximise that potential.
I think this is key to opening up future serious spending.

We are not going to suddenly generate massive commercial increases, there's only so many fans willing to buy stuff and we don't have a billion customers around the world like man utd.

But look at Chelsea and to some degree city, infrastructure and businesses around the football club hit their bottom line and therefore allowed spending. I think this could be genuinely game changing in the 5 - 10 year time frame.

Pretty much mate and he's said as much a couple of times regarding the days of sitting at a League 1 match scouting a player is long gone as everyone knows about everyone now. He said media duties is way more time consuming so in the modern game he needs to focus on the management/coaching side of things.

Of course he'll want a say on who we sign, it's ridiculous to not have the manager have an input on a player he is being told to manage. I've no problem with Moyes having an opinion on that.

I think January was very telling, Moyes seemed certain we needed AT LEAST 3 players through the door, then went to 2, then went to hoping Alcaraz would get over the line. and he was very honest about players on that list were just to make up the numbers. I honestly think he was looking at the list and thinking "what is this pile of crap you've had the last 4 months to work on".

Some kopite on LCC will try to put a kybosh on anything like that

I think it’s incredibly impressive. If he has a similar hit rate in the next 5 years with a bigger budget we will win be in the champions league places.

Maybe wait till summer transfer window closes before sounding the alarm just yet.

Moyes isn’t going to say we need 12 players alerting other clubs to increase cost of players as we look ‘desperate’

No ruin brittle confidence by going your all getting replaced!

Doucoure contract or lack of it hints we will get in players
Not sounding any alarms, just pointing out that we may not get the blockbuster summer that we all crave and that a good number are expecting. After Moshiri, I'm being cautious with these new owners.

The smallest squad in PL history? I think not.
The truth is City are operating with one of the smallest squads in the league. In fact they have used the fewest number of players this season - just 22. The next closest team have used 25.

Its up to you to find the smallest in history, but I can tell you now, it wont be Everton 2025.
