That's probably true. Johnson was ok too.

He just doesn't seem to be the sort of guy he would go for though. Did he ever really spend big on a foreign striker here and then not play them?

It's subjective but I just don't think that Scammaca wasn't his signing.
He tried hard to get Negredo here last few days of a winter window back in the day. Jelavic also of course.

Why? He was generally very good at signing defenders but signed Per Kroldrup after scouting him multiple times - a CB with terrible positioning, who was weak and couldn't head a ball. He signed a CDM in Fellaini (despite loads of scouting) who often struggled to play in the position, he was signed for who he then had to push further up. He signed a winger in Bilyaletdinov who couldn't play on the wing. He signed a lump.like Beattie and then had him running channels 😆🙈

Don't get me wrong, he was generally very good in the market years ago but:
- His record at West Ham for signings was poor overall.
- even in his heyday for transfer acumen, he still made catastrophic mistakes.
- he has never been good at signing strikers.

So, I don't know why you would be so adamant that he isn't a Moyes signing.

What was poor about his west ham record?

I agree. But Moyes' record for forward players over his entire manager career is ridiculously poor.

Can’t be much worse than niasse , kone , Rondon, DCL ,

Hoping he has learned over the years

But arteta , Cahill , penear , Bowen , kudus ( Moyes signing?), show that he knows how to get good value and develop players .. hoping he can find a striker and do the same

Signing strikers that go on to score 20 goals is one of the hardest things to do on a small budget. Only a handful of players score that amount each season and they are usually at the top teams plus the occasional outliers / one season wonders.

Care to explain this one mate?

I don't think Moyes should be calling the shots on recruitment in 2025 like but that seems unfair.

Bowen
Kudus
Soucek
Paqueta
Coufal
Areola

Just a few off the top of my head that basically would have been great additions to any squad in the league.

What was poor about his west ham record?

This is one stint, theres also the Hugill, Evra and Joao Mario signings he made in the other.

Poor isnt the word. Shambolic?

My boss has never made me sign maupay to be fair. But if I was regularly being overruled for something I’m being publicly judged on, I wouldn’t stay around. He gets judged on recruitment and the general rhetoric is our recruitments been crap. (Whether you believe that’s down to him or not - which kind of proves my point)
How would feel if you were Maupay, whether you liked him or not- probably not, he was asked to,play out of position as a 5ft. 7ins. striker while was here but just got on with the job. At Brighton and then Brentford he played off the striker and did far better in that position scoring and making goals.Have a go at Maupay by all means but have a look at who played him as a striker at Everton.

How come he's staying on until summer?
Rock all for him to do there now.....apart from earwig on the clubs future plans.
No firm in the real world would allow this.
He'd be paid off today.
Contract runs out then. I've done plenty of fixed term contract jobs, you carry on until the end date even if there's no renewal or continuation.

I agree, think he is a better striker than we played him to be. Saying that, he is clearly a massive bell considering he is still contracted to us and the stuff he comes out with. But surely then that also points to crap recruitment, signing a player that is far and away from what suits any system we have played since Martinez days.

People don’t care, we should just sign another Lukaku. Despite never having a player score consistently to that level before or after him in the PL. But because we had him, people think we should just get another that scores like he did.

Saying that, I’d be happy with a striker who scores 10 a season at this point, as that’s nearly as rare for us.

Maybe Thelwell wanted out? There was rumours well before TFG’s takeover that neither Dyche or Thelwell wanted to stay beyond their current deals…
