VAR

I’m a fan of VAR in general but the way it’s being mishandled by these bunch of cowards is criminal. It gets rid of the the clear injustices and I actually like the offside bit.

But on the “subjective” ones it’s used time and time again to bail out the big6 clubs. The furorer that would ensure if ones of these went against them it’s too much for the cowards to deal with so they side with them.

always against those mancs. Two seasons ago their attacker and our defender planted their feet at the same time on the 18 yard line at the park end and of course the red tumbled over. No one ever saw it as a pen and it was even waved away as he wasn’t even getting the ball.

Then VAR gets involved the review down and of course a peno. It makes you sick.

It clear to me that with these contentious ones if the ref gives it, VAR will get involved to reverse it. And if it’s not given by the on pitch ref the opposite will happen VAR will get involved to then give it.

If cowards grouping together as a team of three to say look we’ve all reviewed it and we happy to go with VAR. almost to justify the decision.
They need to be sanctioned every time an overstep of NOT clear and obvious is changed.

Your 100% right. There is a fear from refs and it's clear to see they will favour certain sides in decisions that are subjective. A penalty overturn has to be completely and 100% not a penalty. So as an example the Jota dive against Wolves. It was clear and obvious that he put his foot into the Wolves player that was without dispute from all involved.

This one with Young there was clear contact of a shirt pull from all to see. You cannot overturn that penalty any day of the week as there is not clear and obvious evidence that it wasn't a penalty. You can hear the complete unprofessional nature of var when you hear audio clips. It sounds like a bunch of guys having an argument in a pub. VAR has to be factual and exact.

I don't think anyone would have battered an eyelid if we scored the pen and won the game. Man utd wouldn't be complaining they would accept as they all saw a shirt pull against a player who was getting to the ball first. It really was shambolic and I don't see how it can be explained.

VAR should have been the leveller, using technology to remove any unconscious bias and corruption that the cartel
Clubs have had from flesh and blood human officials.

Sadly, The fact that VAR has been implemented so poorly and totally botched, and still relays on human interpretation with the lax rules of “clear and obvious”, means that the same bias, prejudice and corruption are still in play, and so you get blatant bent calls like that on Saturday.

For VAR to work properly we need to remove the human element totally - get the automated off sides up and running asap, instead of the dodgy drawn lines from humans and mandate the use of AI to review video footage properly, instead of cheating corrupt people, picking and choosing what camera angles & footage are used and what also what the on field ref gets to witness. Let the on field ref see everything that’s been taken, not cherry picked and played out of context.

Sadly, I have zero faith that this will happen - VAR is working exactly how they want it to work, and allows match fixing to happen.

The laws of football (much like the laws of the land) will always be subjective. We really need to understand that for these type of conversations to have any validity. Unless you create a law which effectively says 'any contact whatsoever is a foul' (which would be just about the death of the game) you simply have to accept that what is deemed to be a foul by one person won't be by another. Ignoring that just makes the whole argument pointless. We will never get perfection from referees, part of the problem is that we've gone down the road of seeking that and it's just an impossible pipe dream. That's not to say refs shouldn't be held to account though - the decision on saturday was unacceptable and needs to be called out.

Reading up it appears that the foul was called for the Maguire action rather than De Ligt so they classed that as a clear and obvious error. They then decided that the De Ligt pull wasn't enough to give a penalty so it wasn't a clear and obvious error to not give a penalty for that. Confusing nonsense. Young exaggerated but he was pulled by De Ligt and it should have been a penalty.

There needs to be some sort of time limit introduced for the review process. 30 seconds, or maybe 60 at the most. Needing five full minutes to either confirm or overturn a call on the field inherently means that there wasn't a clear and obvious error.

Also, sending the on-field official over to the monitor is a complete waste of everyone's time. I can't think of a single instance where a ref was summoned over and then defied the VAR officials to stick with his original call.

So you agree with me then - human officials are bent and we need to remove them from VAR…..glad we cleared that up.

Dermot Gallagher said it should have been a pen
My ghast is well and truly flabbered.

“Hey Madders….. now go over to the monitor and tell everyone you’ve made a clear and obvious error…. lolz nah it’ll be sound like…. we won’t show you the angle of the two blatant shirt pulls…. it’ll be quality bantz man….”
