VAR

The problem with VAR is you can create a narrative based on whichever angle you have at your disposal.

Add in the time pressure componant, and you end up with numerous mistakes.

If you are going to use it, you need multiple cameras, angles and time to go over all footage and get the decision objectively right.

This angle shows Maguire probably doesn't foul, but both shirt tugs were in fact from De Ligt, and should have definitively been a penalty.

They dealt with the Maguire penalty shout, which was what the initial penalty was for, but not the clear penalty foul(s) by De Ligt, and this is where VAR, time, communication and angles mean were were terribly shortchanged.

They needed to take their time on this one, and get it right. Without more cameras and more time, I think there are always going to be errors like this.

Don't kid yourself ..

If that was Salah and the ref did not give the penalty, VAR would have shown only the angle from behind the goal and told the ref to change his decision...

Corrupt MF's...

We have that penalty against Brentford in similar circumstances... The only way we have that sort decision given against utd etc, is if we 3 or 4 nil down, as no chance of an upset.

It would have been interesting if the ref blew nothing and young went down and VAR had a look at it …

Would they have told the ref to go to the monitor? If so that usually means it gets given

When you see the ballons in their portocabin with pencils and dell screens " discussing" an incident its immediately obvious its become subjective. "Whats the answer we want and how do we get it. Keep looking , aha that works "
It was rubbish on day one and its rubbish now.

Madely was awful but id rather take my chances with him and two liners rather than the back room buffoons.

Tbh I think the var zoo has all the angles, they would of known what angle to show the ref that's not conclusive to the penalty ... That's the corrupt part. It stinks.!! But we're still unbeaten, the first half was impressive ! Only real downside is we currently don't have the same luxury of nearly every other team in this league, Seeing games out with fresher legs to come on. Our bench is two goalies, kids and a linesman... We won't be this light next season.

Yup, I’m still absolutley raging this morning.

Corrupt.
I think that was as angry as I’ve been at a football match in a very very long time , the referee’s performance has already got me raging then this penalty .

I was miles away and could see it , I was convinced it was a pen at first sight and when he reversed his decision told anyone who’d listen we’d know it was nailed on the second we saw it replied and to be fair I was a bit wrong as it wasn’t one it was two fouls both of which were a penalty.

I cannot for the life of me understand how it’s reversed , if you think scab clubs don’t get that decision got a bridge to sell you . As for the exaggeration narrative , one it’s irrelevant to the foul (unless your niasse) and secondly I think we perhaps a case first half for one if , and im not sure who it was , had gone down and as he didn’t no issue .

Yesterday was ah absolute disgrace and like you im fuming .

As regards the whole impact of VAR I only half celebrated the Beto opener as you could tell immediately see it was going to VAR. I want to lose myself in the moment , it’s why football grabs us that joy and loss of control . However VAR is robbing us of those moments of uncontrolled excitement and joy and to add to our day it stole 3 points as well .

Im seeing more players going to the refs now after any goal. Claiming this that and the other. Pressure. They know it will get looked at but it puts something into their heads of what to look for. Im sure if you could get the audio the ref would be saying " maguire says dived"

And why no foul by de ligt for their goal? Not even saw a replay. Took 5 seconds to clear
