"Leeds United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are the only 3 clubs in England that can legitimately challenge the big 6"

Angus Kinnear September 2024
You see I’m not arsed about what he did when he worked for Leeds trying to protect them by attempting to sue us, but that comment right there, if true is why he should not be CEO at this club. If he can’t see our potential he’s not fit for the role.

Maybe he includes us in the big 6.
He did not.

Quote starts at 42:45 I fully agree with you. His opinion does not align with our ambitions

Maybe he includes us in the big 6.

Went to make that comment myself. Wider context;

"The 49ers are hugely frustrated about that because they see the potential of Leeds United and there are those with interests in the game who are very vested in maintaining the status quo. I think Leeds United along with Newcastle and Aston Villa are the only three clubs in England that can legitimately challenge the top six. The top six don't want that challenge so they want to support PSR rules."

He added: "That is the biggest issue with PSR. It's cementing the status quo and meaning that ambitious clubs which have huge potential are going to find it increasingly hard to compete at the highest level.

To be fair, that was September and he was likely factoring in ownership.

Silly to include Leeds though, clearly. A team who has spent as long in league one as the Prem the last few decades - but then he's their CEO, talking to a fan channel so he's going to big them up.

I think he was talking about ambitious owners and their abity to challenge the 'big 6'. Newcastle, Leeds, Villa have very wealthy owners and are clearly committed to spending.

In September we still had Moshiri.

You see if I was defending him ...( I'm not)...you could argue , somewhat semantically, that @Jebus_lives take on this is correct.

He used the phrase " can legitimately challenge" which given that the train crash that was Moshiri's ownership at that time was probably correct.

If he had used the phrase " could challenge " then yes he is ignoring the possibility of a change of ownership at Everton and our potential.

Regardless , he comes across as a toady, ignorant individual and I'm convinced that we could do far better.

Is Prentice still employed by the club in a comms capacity?

The social media / YouTube material the club release on matchdays as well as that for stadium are top drawer. Not sure if we outsource some to all of that but it’s excellent.

Can't argue with that. They are also the first in the firing line when the 💩 hits the fan has it has been for the last few years.

As for Prentice I wouldn't have a clue myself or what job he was ever employed for. That said there's been a negative stench from the club over the recent years
who ever was to blame for it I'm not sure or bothered but seems to be less and and less of it. Long may it continue.

Yeah tbh if it was said to a fan channel that factor probably trumps any serious analysis of what he said and what it meant.

Leeds are one of a few fanbases who get a bit weird about us and he probably knows he’d trigger a bunch of angry Yorkshiremen by even including us in the Big Club conversation. Especially with the recent PSR bitterness.

I’d imagine in private he’d probably substitute us for Leeds in that quote (as would most people), as evidenced by the fact he would leave them for us. He’ll obviously not say that to a Leeds channel but actions speak louder etc.
