Interesting times, and life as we know it and normality as we knew it, is changing ever more rapidly, even by the hour in some cases.

Thought it was an interesting ale house topic that could span a multitude of areas, feel free to post examples of how what was previously the accepted norm has been replaced with a newer truth we now have to accept.

Went about 10 years ago, but the idea that you got a job, did probation and then had employment rights. Now it’s the ‘flexibility’ of the gig economy- people on minimum wage actually celebrating because they have ‘been made permanent’ meaning that they are being exploited for at least 16 hours a week.

It is literally impossible to build any kind of a life through hard work. Unfortunately, historically, that is ‘normal’.

And yet you have the 'grind' guru'd to you by a bunch of chancers who got lucky. I think it was MLK who said its a particularly cruel joke to tell someone to pull themselves up by the bootstraps when they can't afford boots.

For example?

Commuting - on public transport specifically, used to be you could read the boredom and drudgery on people's faces. Now all you see is frontlit aura of their cellphone reflected face. People obsess over themselves including the fifth apendage. They are engrossed. Seen so many miss their stop.

Where I work I’ve never known a place like it. 90% of staff, when away from their desk, are engrossed in their phones, walking to the toilet, to the coffee bars, up and down the stairs, in the lift. Even a lot of them when they’re stood at a urinal.
It’s like a scene from some Sci-fi film where they’re all possessed.
Worked on construction sites previously where it was a massive no-no to be caught on your phone while moving around site.
