It's the most basic of takes to blame the current state of the world on the 'woke agenda'. "Woke" started as a term about social awareness, but it’s now a politicised buzzword. It became a buzzword to criticise the LGBTQ community, mainly the trans community.
Since around 2016 Conservative politicians and media used trans issues as a focal point to criticise "woke ideology." Social media has amplified debates over trans rights, with both progressives and conservatives using the issue to rally support for their broader ideologies, Many of these debates involve misinformation and sensationalism, making it appear as if "being woke" is mostly about trans activism, even though it’s much broader.
DEI is essentially the modern-day version of "woke." The term is favoured by the MAGA crowd because it encompasses all minority groups, including people of colour, individuals with disabilities, and those from low-income backgrounds.
It’s not the billionaire (soon-to-be trillionaire) accelerationist techno-feudalist barons who are the problem—it’s the guy who got a ramp installed through a government-funded inclusion policy so he can get to work. Or maybe it’s students from poor, disadvantaged backgrounds receiving grants for their education. Or black airline hostesses. That’s who’s supposedly causing inflation and price gouging.
