He would be an absolute fool to trust Everton and take a new contract unless he was offered silly money. We have to convince him that it is worth staying. I'm sure he has faith in his partnerships at the back, but we need to have the attack fully revamped by next season and prove we are going somewhere. We have to give him something to believe in or bend over and give him a wacky deal. Playing guys like Doucore and Ash does not help.

If I was nitpicking about his game it'd be with regard to his defensive headers, which invariably find an opposition player about 5-10 yards outside our 18 yard box.

He needs to be more composed and have a look at where his own players are to lay off an intelligent defensive header to them and start our own attacks rather than have us on the ropes again with a thoughtless header out.

Very clear you’ve never played CB mate ….. When a ball comes into the box, as a CB, you fight just get what you can on it. Asking the lad to take a look, then win the header in such a way to set up an attack is just fantasy. JB had a great game this evening and on Wednesday so please just enjoy watching him whilst he still with us.

Your played ale house football as a CB then, because the best CBs (and Branthwoate is getting billed as being one or capable of being one) will be a lot more composed when they have time to consider where they can head out to (Ilm not talking about a ball pinging about the box and in need of a desperate head out at all costs, btw).

The best players are looking around and seeing pictures as to the next passage of play. Branthwaite is great at covering tackles and anticipating danger. That's fine. But a lot of his game is dealing with balls into the box and the lad has to be doing more with them than just ballooning them in the air anywhere as long as they get out of the box.

Not quite ‘ale house’ ….. representative footy in the military and then W Lancs league for a few seasons ….. Branthwaite is being billed as a top CB by former international footballers - people who’ve played the game at the highest level, not some keyboard warrior !
