Moyes did well in the transfer market back in the day, and whilst he had an eye for a bargain via free transfers and loan moves, he wasn’t afraid to shop at Harrods to bring in some top quality either.

He repeatedly broke our transfer record, and spent large sums on the likes of Johnson, Yakubu, and Fellaini. All cost big money at the time

I hope we see the same this time around. You often end up paying twice if you are too scared to pay the going rate for top quality players.

I'm not paying that for any Championship tbh its far too much, even for a standout player there is still a huge jump up to the PL and no guarantee they will succeed. Look at Alex Scott who was a standout a couple of seasons ago, even Pep was blown away by him in a cup game, went to Bournemouth for £25m struggled with the pace of things and got injured and has hardly featured since then. You look at the likes of Chris Rigg now, talked up as some kind of wonderkid yet at the moment he has fallen off a cliff with spectacular style and half the Sunderland fans want him dropped and out the team. There was talk of him being a £40m player, he is nowhere near it. I wouldn't go above probably £20m for any Championship player and it would need to be someone fairly special for that sort of money.

Bowen went for 22m to West ham five years ago mate. I agree I think there's an upper limit (even 20 makes me wince) after which it becomes more risk than reward.

Think Semenyo was signed from one of the Bristol teams. I remember being told that Kluivert was sh*te when I suggested him. Imagine if we had both now. Totally agree. If other teams can sign theses relatively inexpensive gems, then I'm sure we can too. Surely that was Moyes' forte first time around...
Kluivert has had a few clubs tbf but seem to be happy at the moment and its paying off but its possibly why they only paid £10m for him, and yeah Semenyo came from Bristol City who always have been a good source for younger talent as they have a proper talent finding model there when it comes to recruitment, they are very good at it.

Yup I looked at Newcastle, they spent about 90 odd on short term players to keep them up but after that first January every player they bought has been one straight into the first team but haven't been replacing those bought after the Jan - think 7 of 35+ cost. Smart team building

Yeah, too many moves at a young age but now seems settled with a very good coach too. They get Kluivert, we get Onyekuru...not fair!!! 😂 😂 😂

Think them investing in Hall and Livramento will reap the benefits for years to come. Probably be England's FB pairing in a few years...

This situation is going to be mental.

We've got a DoF out of contract in the summer.

Who's going to be signing all the players we need? Is Moyes going to be the one to take control? Are they going to bring in a new DoF right away, or will there be a few weeks of limbo before that's sorted then this new DoF starts trying to bring in players.

Think those two are really key points. Need to be way smarter on loans, and accept that 15-20m players are pretty much the new 3-5m from Moyes last time here.

Need to utilize the multi club model also, Roma have a big squad, this season they loaned out three players who would have improved us for certain, Fe to Sunderland Abraham to Milan and Bove to Fiorentina.

Next season we need to take advantage of that
Loans were key for our first team this season before injury to Mangala and Lindstrom is doing a job. We can use loans again to stagger how much we need to pay whilst still injecting quality.

In my opinion, the hard money needs to be on a right winger, a striker and a CB. Full backs feel like a position that smart loans and free transfers can sort in the short term but in a way that makes sense.

Midfield loans like a Bove instantly come in and add something. Gana and Garner are my immediate midfielder priorities - got to get them tied down.

You’re right with taking advantage of the Roma link, any one of those 3 can contribute.

I think that what will be interesting is who the flagship signing will be and when we can get them in ( hoping for early July) as this should be a good way to show other players who may be unsure about joining us that we are serious about progressing as a club.
Get that first domino right will hopefully allow us to keep our best players here and encourage the right sort of characters too.

Assuming that we don't sell Branthwaite I think we will see a spend of between £100-125 million.

Of all our out of contract players the only one I'd offer a new 1 year deal to is Gana.

I'd like see us spend on a decent CF ( say £40 m ) , a dominant CM ( £30) and RW ( £15m ) and a couple of full backs ( say £10 m each ).

Squad players needed either on loan or frees - GK , CB , CM , CAM , a player who can cover the 2 flanks and striker.

That would give us 3 keepers , 8 defenders, 5 central midfielders , 2 central.attacking midfielders / No10 , 3 wide players and 3 strikers.

Depends entirely on the ambition of the new owners.

If they're serious about competing for Europe, we're talking virtually a whole new team.

It's only really Pickford, Branthwaite and Ndiaye who look good enough for that level, although a few others have shown flashes and could cement themselves between now and the end of the season (Garner, McNeil, Alcaraz and Timmeh).

Pretty sure Moyes will do it if Thelwell goes, because it’s what he did previously. Don’t see that as being a problem. More of an potential issue is who they would bring in to replace Thelwell and how Moyes would work with them.

Or they’re renewing Thelwell’s contract and so Moyes is already working with him on the summer targets.

Thelwell staying is a problem if you think he’s only good for balancing the books but can’t spot good players. I don’t think we’ll truly know unless he stays on and we see what he can do with a big bag of cash, but would you take that risk on Thelwell if you’re unsure? Hopefully TFG have someone of proven quality in mind for DoF.

I’ve said Thelwell too many times now. I feel a bit ill.

8 players at £25m a piece is £200m total + parasite costs, I mean agent fees. Then there's the wages for them all, and then renegotiating with kept staff to allow them to keep up appearances.

It aint happening.
Just like we won’t be getting in 8 bodies at 450k each either. It’ll be a right old mix, I expect.

We got hauled over the coals for £2.5m over budget for losses.

We can't carry another round of Gbamin, Bolasie and Sigurdsson. There's value out there. It'll be an arduous process but Moyes has excelled before.
That's that Evertonian PTSD talking. Not every ~£20m player is guaranteed to turn out like them, in much the same way that every <£5m player isn't guaranteed to be a hidden gem.

For the first time in a LONG time, assuming Kev is on his bike, there is going to be an entirely new set of personnel handling transfers. Optimism isn't necessarily my default position when it comes to this accursed club, but I am choosing to make it so this time.

Bright side - If we screw this up colossally again, we'll soon cease to exist and then we can have our weekends back.
