2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Not that it matters, but a lot of websites say Charly is 5'9", and I've seen some folks post that here as well. Transfermarkt has him at 6', and that matches the photos, both past and present. He's clearly more than half a head taller than Messi, and about the same height as Doucouré, whom he may replace behind the striker.

From the videos I've seen he's definitely taller than 5ft 9. He looks Richarlison type height.

Was just listening to a blueroom podcast with Tim Vickery as guest who seems to be a big fan of Charly.

Seems very confident he will be a big hit, best position is central midfield making late runs in the box
Listening to soton supporter on you tube they were told when he signed he was likened to
Lampard but he disagrees he also says we will love him he has got everything
Including passion in bucket loads I'm really looking forward to seeing this boy

Just a heads up to anyone who hadn’t seen/heard it.

The blue room podcast had Tim Vickery on today talking about Charley, his career so far, type of player and what his situation was with Flamengo and why it didn’t work out there.

It was an interesting and informative listen, even if I don’t always warm to Vickey.

Not keen on a mandatory purchase based on starts tbh. Could tie us in a bit of a knot towards the end of the season if he’s putting in 6 out of 10 performances. (Which I expect tbh)

….i’d be more concerned with 10/10 performances until he triggers the clause, then starts producing 6/10. Saying that, all the signs are that he has the right attitude.

We live in an era of wall to wall DOOM.

Growing up you would get a daily dose of DOOM if you even bothered to watch the news at all.

Now its delivered in multiple formats straight to your hand held device, so yeah, if you consume all that DOOM, then, well, you can see the results.

As for charly boy, I watched his youtubers, he seems like a decent chap who enjoys a tackle and loves to run with the ball, good luck to the lad.

He’s got a very good reputation.

Recall when we signed Funes Mori and he called him out as being a bad signing. Even after a few of our fans started goading him cos he played a couple of half decent games.

Awful player.

Actually posted similar on Bluesky earlier today. After a few games of people acting like Funes Mori was great (his positioning was exactly as bad as Vickery had said it would be, but it was just a series of those "we should've been punished, but the opponents missed the net with the shot" type moments, so people acted like it wasn't happening), Vickery was like "yeah I guess he's not as bad as I'd been expecting, as he hasn't had multiple red cards and been directly at fault for multiple goals... yet," and people acted like that was an admission that he was wrong.

This is all pretty clearly remembered because like Vickery, I (and the rest of South America) had seen Funes Mori play at least a couple dozen games, almost every one of which saw Funes Mori do exactly what Vickery was describing (getting caught out of position, committing an act of violence to end the attack, somehow not getting sent off for it, then acting proud of what he'd done). Funes Mori kept it fairly clean at the start, but then there were things like a run where we gave up something like 5 goals in a week where his poor positioning was obviously at fault, then later that embarrassing sending off, where people just shut up about him rather than admit that they were wrong the whole time.
