It’s not a coaching thing at all, he’s just clearly not suited to this level of football.

He was flipping burgers 7 years ago playing in the amateur leagues in Portugal, it’s a meteoric rise to be fair. But his understanding of the pace of the game is nowhere near this level. Even if he’s a big lad and he’s quick his mind won’t ever be at that level.

I'm not sure that's true. I'm pretty sure he was frying delicious chicken.

All kidding aside, that's he's come this far is incredible and he deserves a lot of credit for that. It's admirable. I just don't think he's good enough for the PL.

C'mon you can coach people to press and certainly improve them. He's definitely raw and that's mainly down to his coming to this level late in his career. He's just not played a lot of football at this level. Is he the answer to Everton's striking situation in the long run? I don't think so. Is he as bad as people are making out, I don't think he is. He'll score goals if you give him the right service, probably somewhere around 1 in 3.

That doesn’t argue with what I’m saying though? 5 years of top flight football is quite a lot, he played in proper junior teams too it’s not like he only discovered football at 23. Like I said, you can coach him to do things better but it will only go so far considering his age and experience, there has to be a basic level there to work with which I’m just not sure is the case for him.

You can coach stuff like how to press, technique, you can train athletically etc. - absolutely.

The issue is I don’t think you can really bring someone’s understanding of the game ‘up’ a level or two with the speed the games played at now in the prem.

Best example is when the ball gets launched from a clearance off Pickford/a full back or cb - how often does Beto get across his man or even make it difficult for them? Compare that to DCL - night and day.

He’s 5/6 yards off the play. He’s not seeing the game quickly enough. Physically he’s fine and technically he can improve (looks alright in front of goals sometimes) - it’s the speed of the game going on around him that’s the issue. He’s not making decisions quickly enough or processing what’s happening.

He's clearly not a technically gifted footballer but I feel a lot of our fans just refuse to acknowledge that most players need a run of games to build up form.

Beto has barely been given a chance in the time he's been here in terms of lots of minutes and starts. His first touch is diabolical at times but if he is given a run of games he can work on that

He gives us a lot more threat than Calvert-Lewin who may be a better hold up striker but has a very disappointing goal record.

Beto needs to be judged properly after a run of 5-10 games from the start which he's never had.

Some poor touches today but still cause their defence a fair few problems.
The poor touches cause a problem as the defenders dont have any more idea than he does where the ball is going.. The bar is set very low here mate but he is not PL standard and we need better !

guys a big clumsy fruit machine. Can’t fault his effort, but fact he could well be our no 9 till seasons end is worrying. Nowhere near prem level, and he’s got a 1st touch like Harold Shipman. I want him to do well so much, but just don’t think he’s capable sadly.

The guy looked bang average against Peterborough never mind Prem teams. Mindboggling how we spent about a year with him on the radar and paid about £25m for him. Runs around like he was the 4th placed winner of an Ali Dia tribute act.

We do need better and hopefully Moyes can identify someone.

But it still doesnt change that Beto has only played over 60 mins twice all season in the league. It's hard for a player to make an impact with the lack of minutes, especially a player who needs to work on some weaknesses.

The other side of it is that people feel embarrased by Beto's poor touch and clumsy play but will defend Calvert Lewin going 16 games without a goal which is unbelievably bad for a Premier League Striker. And the likes of Dyche and a section of our support will justify his inclusion from the start regularly just cause he holds up the ball well but provides little to no goal threat.

If we saw the DCL who played vs Spurs last week or Liverpool at Goodison last season on a regular basis then i'd have no issue with Beto never getting a run of games.
