Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

It doesn’t read like we couldn’t make because of financial restraints if we showed interest and wanted to explore further. From what I read he simply chose NF over us. Some have said because of style of play but I think that’s conjecture.

I’m not absolving Thelwell’s any accountability here….you may well be right. What I am saying is we simply do not know. You can’t look at the result of not signing Thelwell and blame him as we really don’t know the variables involved. As far as I am aware Thelwell also hasn’t been responsible to this point in firing managers (I think a DoF’s remit should include hiring and firing of managers) so when someone says they don’t want to join because of style of play (which is not proven but understandable), he wouldn’t be able to do much about it. Philogene is another one we have been reportedly interested in, he first went to Villa and has now joined Ipswich.
Personally, if someone like Moyes is your manager, you dont need a DOF.
You need a Technical Director.
Abit similar to how Klopp dealt with it for the reds, he identifyed the players as he knew his system best (with advice from his scouts, and others). The Technical Director then does the admin around the deal

Agree to disagree mate, just never rated him ;)
Maybe the reason many other fans want Richy back is being sick of watching us not score in 12 out of 20 PL games this season, Beto having an abysmal first touch and DCL losing every physical challenge with a centre half and doesn't look like scoring even the times he has been given great opportunities to score.

Can't see Spurs letting him go though

Broja will almost certainly be sent back cancelling that loan to free one up. If we want pace, we've got to look on the continent i.e. Nuamah from Lyon etc
And what about your original statement saying we should get Ward Prowse who is on loan to Forest from West Ham?

He is a crock now who can't stay fit though. Also we really should be able to scout for replacements (I know, I know) and at this level of the game we should not be relying on one player to score our goals, others simply must contribute and that's down to the individuals, manager and the tactics.

Think people need to be a bit realistic about this transfer window.

In the last 6 winter transfer windows weve only had one where we brought in actual players for the first team for proper money.

That was the 21/22 season and that was because we sold digne for good money. We bought mykolenko and Patterson and brought in dele for free and donny van der beek on loan.

Another season we brought in branthwaite and one other we brought in Josh king who played about 3 games and was dropped.

As much as i 100% agree we need players in this window. We need to face the fact we usually need players every January and we hardly ever bring them in.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but i just wouldnt be surprised if we didnt bring anyone in

Fair points.
If it means we don’t have to sell Branthwaite in June, maybe a quiet January is the best option.

I think big part of his injuries are a hangover from him playing injured for us.

The last month or so he was on injections.
