Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

In my head Moyes walked into his office with Thelwell on Day 1. There was a big whiteboard on the wall with the squad shown in their positions on a pitch. They got a red pen and went “this area is weak, this is weak, and this is weak”. Moyes would ask, “okay so what’s the budget for each position?”. They then said okay let’s got 20 names for each position then evaluated them all.

That’s what I’d do if I was a manager anyway.
Absolutely - that’s the obvious common sense way, let’s hope they have a decent relationship as well

Yeremay Hernandez has a release clause if £17M at Deportivo.
Chelsea want him but want him in the cheap to rot in their bloated squad (or farm out on loan for cash)

I think that list might need the once-over from a human being.

Mason Holgate, Arnaut Danjuma, Neal Maupay 24/25 signings?

AI really is tripe.
It's as good as the source material really. I'm guessing whatever site it ripped the info from didn't discern between returning players. Who knows. It wasn't meant to be analysed in depth was a quick dirty means of showing who we signed since 2017. Tough gig.

Highlights are Digne, Richarlison, Branthwaite and Rodriguez. Not sure I can summon any enthusiasm for many others on that list.

I think it’s about time we took the nostalgia glasses off with this one. Signings like this were a major reason why we lost money hand over fist and ended up with points deductions. What we got in return wasn’t worth it. It was a stupid vanity signing that we could never afford in the first place, it’s time to grow up and get real regarding this signing now.

You take yours off. He was a delight to watch (albeit on TV). While it lasted it was good. And the point is he was head and shoulders above all that came before and since in this epoch. James wasn't the cause, your Bolasie, Gylfi etc were.

Signed him for free, sold him for £8m.
6 goals, 8 assists in 26 games.

He really was not a PSR problem and we really did get a worthy return 😂

Well we lost £120m in the financial year 2020/21. We incurred points deductions for the financial period 2019-2022. James Rodriguez, whether people want to believe it or not, didn’t play for free and was the highest paid footballer at the club by some margin. We couldn’t afford him, it’s time to just accept it as adults now.
