He rode off the back of Bloom's analytics set up Brighton big time.

Spent a bag full of cash at Newcastle only to leave them high and dry for United, and to this day has them flying very close to the sun in terms of PSR as well as according to Paul Mitchell left him with an squad unbalanced.

Then onto United were he sanctioned 200 million pounds worth of signings only for them to have gone backwards, him throwing Ten Haag under the bus in the process and ultimately seeing him relieved of his duties after 6 months.

He's done absolutely nothing of note in the game but the press seems to laude over him ever since he worked as Head of Elite Development at the FA which seems to have got him some friends within the game and the media.
Thanks this was highly educational, as I was always presented the media's curated spin that he was this savvy football mind so I bought into it

….probably an argument that selling Ellis Simms (£3m?) and bringing Beto in for £25m shows his judgement of a footballer, given they’re probably at similar level. He’s generally playing the going rate for mediocrity.

Selling Iwobi for £20m was good business given he had 12 months left of his contract but that player walks into this team given the players Thelwell has brought in.
I don't even think thelwell has done a particularly good job but the way you go after him is something else.
simms is a weak argument to use, he's very much struggling this season and has hardly ripped up trees in the championship.

I actually think beto tears up the championship. Do I think he was worth the money invested...not at all altho I think he's deserved more playing time than he's had here.

Back to thelwell, he's not great but he's had to utilise player trading to try and rejuvenate the squad with very little (none) additional money to spend in a time with awol ownership and a manager who plays 1 way who'll be gone soon.

Beto cost what, 20 million, on drip.
That'll buy you a 15 goal a season striker
which is exactly what Beto is if you play him as much as DCL gets played.
Is he the answer up front, probably not. But he's what you get for 20m

20m doesn’t get you close to a 15 goal striker in this league. Look at how much Solanke went for.

Why does everything take so long at Everton 🤷‍♂️
