Yeah, it’s certainly a strange one given they paid compo to the horse punchers and had to wait out however many months gardening leave before employing him, only to bin him 6m later.
Interesting line that Eddie Howe was ‘diplomatically polite’ about him, but i guess that could mean anything from he didnt rate him, to he was good but left us in the lurch etc.

I think I’m less bothered about replacing Thewell as he seems more structures and process than anything else, which isn’t a bad thing. I’ve certainly joked on here before about he seems to have appointed a manger for just about every aspect of back of house operations.
Im not convinced a Dan Ashworth can do much more than / better than Thewell if that is the DoF role at Everton, i imagine the best data analysis people etc are reasonably well know in those circles and more than likely follow the best pay like most normal people.
Regarding Eddie Howe, I remember a presser he did around the time there was speculation about Ashworth going to Man U. Didn't seem to like him at all. Whether the problem there was Ashworth though or Howe, no idea.

I'd guess Howe. There's a list of people at both B'mouth and Newcastle who have found themselves at odds with Eddie.

His job, has been nigh on impossible. Absent owner, huge financial problems, PSR issues, bloated squad of tat on huge wages etc etc. and people expect him to have done “better”?? LOL. He fully deserves a FAIR crack under more steady circumstances under new ownership. Whether he’ll get that remains to be seen. He isn’t their man at the end of the day and owners usually like to get their own people in. We’ll see.
Personally I’d stick with him…I think he’s conk-ered a lot the challenges he has faced

Thelwell may not get much support from the fans becuase of having to watch Maupay - but his navigation of PSR and wage bills will do no harm to his CV - along with a lot of decent sales.

….probably an argument that selling Ellis Simms (£3m?) and bringing Beto in for £25m shows his judgement of a footballer, given they’re probably at similar level. He’s generally playing the going rate for mediocrity.

Selling Iwobi for £20m was good business given he had 12 months left of his contract but that player walks into this team given the players Thelwell has brought in.

What are your particular issues with him? honestly always had a positive perception of him shaping clubs but you have pretty solid takes so I'm willing to revise my outlook
He rode off the back of Bloom's analytics set up Brighton big time.

Spent a bag full of cash at Newcastle only to leave them high and dry for United, and to this day has them flying very close to the sun in terms of PSR as well as according to Paul Mitchell left him with an squad unbalanced.

Then onto United were he sanctioned 200 million pounds worth of signings only for them to have gone backwards, him throwing Ten Haag under the bus in the process and ultimately seeing him relieved of his duties after 6 months.

He's done absolutely nothing of note in the game but the press seems to laude over him ever since he worked as Head of Elite Development at the FA which seems to have got him some friends within the game and the media.

Iwobi was arguably one of, if not the best player we have had in the last 5 years. The issue for him was our style of play. It's a bit like the Harrison situation, good goal return at Leeds but without an overlapping full back his stats are skewed massively at Everton.

Albeit iwobi is far better than Harrison And that is clear to see. We have missed him since he left and 20 million actually looks a bargain for Fulham.
