2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Tbh although I’d happily see him launched into the sun the games in December are where you would hope his negative backs to the wall football might yield some surprise points.

We know his tactics are too negative to deliver wins against inferior / similar sides but *in theory* the trade off should be grinding points against better teams.

So I guess I can see some logic in holding off and seeing if the recent defensive solidity holds up against better teams. Even though like everyone else I am crying out for something different.

He won't get sacked after United away. If we lose to Wolves, maybe. Farhad would be judging this on 'has it been worse than this before' and tbh, it has.

So the logic here is, we must wait for it to get as bad as it was before? So we’re going to wait til we have 15 points at the start of February before we sack him? This doesn’t appear to be a clever strategy to me.

Is that you done with him now then John mate?

It's not really about me or my opinion now mate. It's do or die for him now. He now needs to get results.

What I will say though, is that I would still have the same concerns regarding the squad and the lack of pace and goals. I've said before today that I have absolutely no doubt that there's managers out there who could get us playing 'prettier' football and/or score more goals. I have no doubt that there's managers out there that would get us playing higher up the pitch in some matches and scoring more goals on average. It's always easier said than done though. Those decisions carry a flip side - you are taking more risks, so are likely to concede more, so you then have to ask; how many more will we score and how many more will we concede? My own opinion is that any manager is gonna struggle to get more than 50 goals out of this team and I'm being kind using 50 I feel.
To use a good example of how the balance can quickly change, let's look at the season Dyche came in. We scored 34 goals that season and conceded 57 (interestingly Leicester scored the most goals in the bottom half that season with 51, yet were still relegated).

Last season we got 6 more goals, finished on 40 goals, and finished 12 points better off, and 14 points better off than Leicester had finished the previous season with.

As I say though, he's up against it now. I'm not desperate for a manager to come in and take unnecessary risks. I'd be happy with somebody just getting results.

If he keeps a clean sheet at Old Trafford we might at least see some of the benefit he brings, but if people want him gone before then, I'm not gonna bother arguing with them all week, they're entitled to their opinion.
