2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Completely agree with that sentiment expressed by O’Neill. Playing % (and low % football) ineffectively will never be a recipe for consistent results. The best football we have played in recent times was under Martinez in his first season. Lightning in a bottle it may have been but this also coincided with our best PL points haul ever. Playing the way Dyche does, in prioritising defensive shape, which slows transition, means we are only ever going to rely on the odd good footballing move and set peices. It is a matter of luck, more than coaching. I get the players are not great going forward but there has to be a sustained attempt to try and play that way a little more.

Here is one stat from last season. I could have picked any club. And ive not even gone for a team riding high in the table for an example.

Everton 23/24.
Open play goals. 19. Set play goals 18.

Crystal palace 23/24.
Open play goals 47. Set play goals 4.

Im not knocking set play goals. But to be the same as open play levels is as sean dyche as you can get and is the major contributer to classic matches like yest where you havent a clue to get around a side who's had a player sent off before half time.
He's as spit and grit a manager as you can get.

The fact we’ve ended up in full blown crisis after strengthening a team that got 48 points last season is actually quite impressive. He is impressively awful.

O'Brien
Ndiaye
Mangala
Lindstrom
Iroegbunam
Broja

Would you say weve strengthened?

1: Branthwaites injury left us with Keane.
= Dyche doesnt fancy our £12mil O'Brien

2: Godfrey sold and Young at RB
= Patterson & Dixon fit and ready.

3: Onana sold with 2 replacements
=Iroegbunam dropped & Mangala a donkey
Garner injured is a big miss.

4: Ndiaye, Broja & Lindstrom signed
Upgrade on Dobbin + Maupay.

No doubt the overall squad has been improved from a monetary/resale standpoint. However the injuries to Branthwaite, Garner and dare I say, Chermiti have done us in.

O'Brien and Iroegbunam are used and dropped for dross like Keane & Mangala...right backs tried and dropped for Young.

The manager is just not with it.

The main issue for me is that he's lost the majority of fans and also appears to have lost some of the players.

If everyone was onside then it might make sense to believe he can get us over the line, however I think his time is now up. Yesterday was the proof of that. He's just not winning enough games and is relying on getting to the end of the season where others have nothing to play for to try and get results. A better manager like Moyes I believe has us clear of danger right now and wouldn't even need that.

I'm not saying give Moyes 5 years but just give him the reigns to stabilise the club again in mid table and go from there, it's the no brainer for me.

It’s a very simple script for the pro-Dyche mob to follow:

When we win or get a good result: “full credit to Dyche for how he has set us up…”

When we lose or get a bad result: “you can’t blame the manager for our players not taking their chances…”

They have manoeuvred themselves into a position where Dyche can’t be criticised in their eyes.
I think the club have done this too though, I don’t feel at any point this season he’s been closed to being sacked. Draw at Brentford for them is a good result, getting tonked in our next 5 games against much better teams also gives them a get out. I don’t see any way they are paying him off this season when they can get rid for free in the summer.

How will it be free at the end of the season if he gets another ludicrous bonus? The club will have ended up paying an additional multi million pound lump sum for him doing the absolute minimum, which he’s already pretending will be a miracle so he’s not going to suddenly change his ways and solve HIS major flaw of coaching a team to score goals.
