Hi.

My mobile coverage at Goodison is dire, particularly data. Has been for years.
Which network do you think has the best coverage at Goodison (if any)?

I’m on Voxi, it was 3 before that. Never had a signal in any part of the ground within 20 mins of kick off. I was in early for the Doncaster game and had full internet usage. Once it started filling up it stopped working.

The mobile network around Goodison is poor, certainly for data. The reciever can only hand off a limited number of connections as even the 5g network is essentially just 4g+. The receiver modules are still limited in input connections, but the output speed has been increased giving the feel of faster speeds.

True 5g networks uses reciever modules that can handle in excess of 5k concurrent connections using Maximum Input Maximum Output (MIMO) technology. That's more than 5x the current connections. BMD will have a network of recievers within the stadium linked up to a hardwired backhaul, hooking directly into the cities high speed fibre ring main. There is also Vodafones 5g mast within distance towards the Costco. This will be the first football stadium in the world to incorporate this technology to this scale.

In addition to this, the connectivity around Goodison has actually gotten worse due to the retirement of 2g technology. Voice calls used to be made on 2g wavelengths maximising space for 3g and 4g to utilise data. Now the 3g, 4g wavelength are also packed with voice and sMS data. Not something that is an issue in normal usage, but is in high usage areas. 5g currently remains data only, other than where users are utilising Voice Over Internet Provider (VOIP)
