Summer '07 the big fight for Jag was contested by:

Chelsea X
United X
Arsenal X
Blackburn X
Birmingham X
Everton & Wigan - We have a winner!!

FFS Mate, non of them were in for Arteta, piennar, Lescott or Yobo

As for skill. I suppose John Terry and Sol Campbell should have been got shut of so Chelsea and Arsenal could 'move forward'.

:D:D

Going for the beer or a more organic approach tonight Mr Dude?

Just on the ale tonight mate. I've not had a smoke since Everton got kicked out the UEFA cup - and that was a few weeks ago I think  :P

I've been doing two weeks on it, two weeks off. I'm into my "two weeks off" now, up until payday.

edit: Halewood's a cock. SuitsBlue has caught him out AT LEAST three times now and he just won't die. Some mod must be developing an urge to check the "ban" button works by now, surely???

I'm such an addict - I'm tempted to go get a bird just to keep me off the weed for a bit

obviously he's out of his mind, but there's no reason to single him out personally, he's entitled to his own opinion.

i think in terms of arguing about skill, we need to clarify what skills you think a centre back should possess. To me, as long as a centre half can play a full 90 minutes without fatigue, can step up when necessary to hold a line, and can make a tackle, and can head the ball in, he's the perfect player for that position. aside from maybe effectively holding a line, i've seen jagielka do all of that.

he's not all that clever on the ball, i guess, though i haven't seen him make any really gash mistakes. i'm surprised you're not having a go at yobo instead, he's been much worse these last few games.

if you want lescott to stay at left back, who would you suggest replace jagielka, he's without a doubt the best option for his price in that position.

...just don't have him take penalties :dodgy:

Yobo : Always makes me nervous when he's on the ball often passes it to Jagielka for him to play the ball elsewhere. Made an awful tackle on the edge of the box when he didn't need to consequently he would've served a ban if we did go through to the next round. Hoofs the ball out of play under the slightest ounce of pressure. but is pacey and reads the game well.... Great defender. Offers nothing going forward and looks to "pass the buck" onto other players to make himself look a better player then he actually is.

Verdict : His job is to defend and he does that well definitely a starter. It's annoying he's taken so long to shake off the defensive howlers that he used to be prone to. Perhaps I would have more faith in him if he hadn't taken so long....I find myself waiting for the next howler to be caused by him. Hopefully he'll go one for season without gifting a goal.

Lescott : Can you actually say a bad word about this guy? he's strong, decent in the air great at defending. runs up the wing like a freight train barging everything out of his way. Gets a decent return of goals for us. Composed cool calm and collected. England's future centrehalf who people are going to be asking who should partner Lescott for England.....

Verdict : Kids in the playgrounds around Liverpool are having arguements about who would win in a fight Between Lescott and Superman.

Jagielka : Bearing in mind that he's still only half way through his first full season and players usually take a full season to settle into a squad well what can you say about Jags?

He's quick, vocal, good in the air for his height, not afraid to make last ditch tackles. doesn't give up when people are through on goal the amount of times he's saved us this season alone is commendable if he isn't shortlisted for player of the season its criminal.

People are saying yeah well if he reads the game better then he wouldn't need to make those last ditch saving tackles. Erm, wrong he's covered the rest of the back four's asses with those last minute saving blocks whenever someone lets someone go you can guarrentee the person making the block will be Jagielka...of course then people will be saying Jags switched off and that player shouldn't have got through there when that player wasn't Jags' responsability.

Against Fiorentina in the first leg Yobo was shocking no doubt about it he shat himself in Italy and thank god Jagielka and Howard were performing because that could've easily been a big embarrasement for us. In the second leg one particular moment that impressed me was when we had a corner and they got the ball and started attacking down the left flank Yobo bombed it as fast as he could back to our half Lescott was on the left side of our pitch and furthest away from the action Jagielka turned on the radar turned around and cut out the counter attack for a throw in on the halfway line. Yobo doesn't do that I've seen Lescott do it but never Yobo.

Verdict : Future captain for sure. People that can see faults in his play need only remember that Arteta wasn't perfect in his first season neither was Lescott. Jagielka is a great defender and can play a pass I think next season he'll raise his game even more and become one of the greats. Like Cahill this guy never knows when he's beat and doesn't stop working just because he thinks they've scored he gets back and puts the boot in. He's the epitomy of the Everton workman Mentality and shouldn't be questioned on defensive ability because its there and it's saved us countless times this season.
