I've refused a smart meter for years. They keep trying though.

They're that old, they still use 2g connection. 2g will be defunct in the next few years, so making the smart meter defunct and needing replacing.

The government announced in December 2021 that it and the mobile industry had agreed to switch off 2G and 3G networks in the UK. The UK's four mobile network operators (MNOs: EE, Virgin Media O2, Vodafone, and Three) will retire both networks across the UK by 2033 at the latest, but likely much earlier

The energy saving is arguable too. Like for me, as a normal person I know when power is being wasted. So I turn stuff off. With so many issues being recorded too as you say above, there's just no point currently!

When they ring they say 'were just confirming the date to fit your smart meter..'

I say 'yeah, no thanks I don't want one..'

They sound surprised on the phone! 'oh, really?'

I just say 'yeah, I don't have internet so cant connect...' lol

Price increases all around.. I'm with eir for my broadband 7.6% increase coming from Monday Sky going up, Fuel going up... Sky is the first thing that will get punted.. €150 a month I'm paying for everything they offer sports movies etc, which something that I using less and less, for this price I'd get multiple streaming services and have change left over, I'm in contract with sky untill June after that I won't renew.

It's getting way worse in the last 5-7 years. They still do some good investigative reporting, but there is large swaths of appeal-to-boomers (the only significant demographic that bothers to subscribe to their print edition) and both-sidesism in their content now.
