He’ll do for me
Yes, it's a bit weird saying he needs folk tracking back etc. So does Young lol!Compared to Ashley Young he is pure class mate - he would have got skinned today early doors in that game....
I mean, McNeil tracks back a lot in support of Myko yet Myko doesn’t have that thrown at him as him being a poor player. It’s the set up we play. And it works.Yes, it's a bit weird saying he needs folk tracking back etc. So does Young lol!
Tracking back is very much part of the modern game and our wide players are no different.I mean, McNeil tracks back a lot in support of Myko yet Myko doesn’t have that thrown at him as him being a poor player. It’s the set up we play. And it works.
Pretending it’s just Patterson who gets defensive support from the forward/midfielders is way disingenuous.
It’s really odd.Tracking back is very much part of the modern game and our wide players are no different.
You could say Danjuma is more talented than Harrison & McNeil , but if he won't track back effectively, it's why Dyche isn't picking him.
If that's all anyone wants to have a go at Patterson for they've already lost it.
Sums it up really. It’s really odd.
We just kept another clean sheet with him starting. And all their attacks that led to anything meaningful came from the other side. Yet somehow he is the issue.
I think the thing with Patterson is he's got room to improve on that. His daft Cruyff turn and the sliding tackle he tried to pull off weren't amazing. Time and experience. If he doesn't its definitely a problem….sorry, but he makes me nervous defensively.
He’s either rushing at his winger making him easy to pass or too far away to cut out crosses, I’d be thinking he’d know by now how to mark his opponent. I so want him to be first choice but his defending is a real concern for me. He was better 2nd half and delivered a few decent crosses throughout the game.
i’d persist with him now over Young but I will understand if Dyche drops him.
Strangely enough, playing as a wing back yesterday he made me more nervous than most of the games he's played right back for us. I don't know if that was anything to do with the understanding between him and Godfrey maybe, or the fact the wing back role means he has more attacking responsibilities as well. Dunno, but while I have no issues with what he gave us going forward yesterday (1st half especially) I was more nervous about his defensive contributions yesterday than I've been in a good while.….sorry, but he makes me nervous defensively.

I don't know why your post is being questioned since you made it. It's spot on.….sorry, but he makes me nervous defensively.

I don't think anyone is denying he still has development to do. It's just there's a disproportionate level of vitriol being aimed at him in some quartersGlad he is getting games and mins the last day and yesterday. That was a very good Burnley left winger and he had some good phases against him. Not so good ones too. I liked what I saw from him more offensively yesterday - I’ve been saying for a while he has that in his locker.
I think more and more people can see and are acknowledging he has developmental and experiential needs to hone his defending. Been saying for a while he needs games week in and week out, lad needs a loan in Jan to really give him and us the best chance next Aug.
