Anyone who says they hate Friends is just trying to be different and edgy
I wish the pilot episode was all the cast dying in hospital from smugness and then every episode afterwards was just showing a couple of empty apartments and random people reading a newspaper in a coffee shop. My hands would be blistered from hours of applauding.

Put Special Ops: Lioness staring Zoe Saldana on early, fully expecting it to be utter GI Jane garbo, well well well, I’m hooked.
It’s more a cross between Homeland and Jack Ryan, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by it. Very bingable

That last episode was thrilling.

Finished Alice in Borderland both seasons now. Highly recommend. It has been a while since I have felt the desire to binge through a series like that.

Excellent mind bender of a series.

Im watching the POWER 50cent series books 2 (finished) and on book 3 second season now

Nothing special...like a basic version of the crime element in the wire.

Something to pass the time.

First couple of series were fantastic but then the characters all became caricatures of themselves. Painful to watch near the end.
Find this especially common with American comedy series. Something seems to switch after a while and they become smug and self referential. Always seems like the actors and writers no longer need to try so hard as they’re rich all of a sudden.

Thought hating Friends was a relatively mainstream opinion myself

It had some decent writers on it at the start so there's some good comedy in there, they just went down a path to be more about the character quirks and relationships than the actual comedy writing and hence why lots will find it rubbish and probably never see any of the decent writing. I think US Office did a great effort at balancing that much better than Friends.

Personally I found it extremely irritating and every character except for maybe Joey I couldn't bear. Phoebe IMO is possibly the least funny character in the history of comedy

This post is slightly contradictory. If you say it started off good but people won't ever see the decent writing, surely if they press play S1 E1 they're going to see the good?

Probably most people who hate it will have seen random episodes over time, not necessarily starting from the start. I never sat down to watch it purposefully. I saw a lot of it when it was unavoidable and on always in places I lived. I did pay attention more when one flatmate stuck on the first season as I'd read some articles on the writing as I'm generally interested in comedy and comedy writing and history

I watched the original Power series on Netflix. Pretty decent

Friends came out when I was 9 or 10 and I absolutely loved it. This was obviously before streaming and also having loads of channels on Sky (not even sure we had Sky then at home) so I used to watch it over and over again. Dread to think how many times I have watched it, especially the early seasons.

Can understand why people wouldn't like it if they came to it for the first time now though and the later series do get quite bad. Especially what they did to Joey, turning him from a bit of an idiot but loveable to an absolute moron. The Joey Speaks French episode is one of the worst things ever committed to screen.
