It was disappointing that the reserve game was called off today at Wigan as Ross Barkley and Jose Baxter were due to be involved.
Instead they had a practice game at the training HQ and Baxter was outstanding in a game that was only for an hour which Ross completed so maybe they are due to return to first team action even if it's only the bench.

Would love to see both back. Aside from Baxter being a bit of a ....... over that fake money thing I've always though he has plenty of ability. Sure Ray Hall said he has the same ability as Rooney but not the same body! I'd have them both in the first team now. Possibly Baxter just off the front man?

I remember a lad whos nephew was in our youth setup telling me Baxter played Jack Wilshire off the park a couple of years ago, hopefully that spell at Tranmere has done him some good and he could kick on.

We all know Barkley is already good enough to play, the only man in goodison who doesnt think so, is unfortunately the one with the biggest say.

I'd actually start Baxter on friday. Never really rated him before he left but he's been playing well and more importantly, I really can't take Saha anymore. Anyone but Saha, he needs a rest.

BAxter played 15 games for Tranmere, scoring 3 goals so 1 in 5 he put one in the onion bag, not great but more than Saha. I had mixed reviews off my cousin who goes to Tranmere however anything is better than Saha in fact I am sure my boots are in the shed..........(pondering phoning Moyes see if I can get a game!)

As for Ross I would start him on Friday he would pass forward at least!

It's not as if there's anyone in that midfield or forward line playing Barkley or Baxter out of the team is there?

Definitely not. If Baxter or Barkley can play, get them out there. I say that Cahill up top would be better than Saha.

I'd play it Landon RM, Drenthe LM, Fellaini CM, Barkley CM, Baxter CAM, Cahill CF

I think Fellaini and Barkley could really work well together.

Bally - what is your view.

Are Barkeley and Baxter likely to make it. I include Barkeley 'cos I trust your view must higher than the hyperbole and mania shown on here for example with Green who whilst has promise is just a kid.

not quite sure about Baxter tbh, he can pass a ball yes but i dont think his playing mind is really upto PL standards i'd suggest loaning him out again this time to a championship side to see if he has learned from his mistakes. Barkley while he is young and skilled also needs to learn alot before hes upto being a 1st teamer. i'd say Barkley is defo going to make it in the PL, and baxter while he wont be a world beater by any standards will make an impact in the PL some day

Both have fantastic abilty no doubt.

I think Jose has earned a chance hes probably the most technically gifted player at the club not that its the be all and end all.

The problem with Jose is whats his best position, he played CM for the reserves against Blackburn even deep midfield at times and was pinging the ball over the park.

I dont think DM would trust him in the middle but it does need freshening up in the final third.
