Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning
I hope that is not paulownia :-
Unless you want a big tree .
Yep that's the one. The fastest growing tree in the world. We already have one on Arboretum which we only planted 3 years ago and is already about 12 foot .

If you let them grow them you get lovely flowers but if you pollard them ( which I will do in the tropical garden ) and keep it at about 6 feet then the leaves are massive.

Morning everyone,

Big shop for mum and us this morning. It's strange , I always used to do the shop on a Thursday or Friday but during the pandemic I switched to Monday / Tuesday as it was much quieter and now it has become a habit.

Then off to the gym .

Mrs J looking after the rescue shop this afternoon and rain is forecast so an afternoon in front of the TV watching the Tour and Women's Ashes.

@Vegas Toffee Girl how are things? I know you've been following the thread but not posted for a while - busy with the new job?

Have a lovely day y'all.

Perusing a local magazine’s FB page, came across a feature on a local pub‘s charity fundraiser. This chap was there - he seems nice. lol

Morning all. Cloudy after a sunny start. Have to do school run for grandkid no 2 tomorrow so off to see my friend today instead of our usual Wednesday natter. I will now be one day ahead for the rest of the week now, still “gain a day, gain a friend“ or so they say. I can confirm that not only is the chap in the picture nice he also has excellent taste - he’s married to me. lol
Have a good day, all.💙

I guessed that , handsome and the only Evertonian in Peterborough lol

Good afternoon lovelies. Sunny and windy here today. No rain though. Today I learned a new word - peng. In the context that a woman was told she had a 'peng' figure. I had no clue what it was. Apparently it means pleasing/attractive/fit/hot. So now you know. I did a bit of googling and apparently it is derived from a Jamaican word that was used to mean good quality weed. Every day is a learning opportunity.

Hope Mrs D had a nice birthday @Ducans elbow. I like the sound of your book @Gwladysover.

I'm looking forward to our trip to Liverpool this weekend. It will be the first time we've been for a social visit since Dad's funeral so it will be a bit strange being there.

Mr F and I have booked Bank Holiday weekend away in Scotland - western Highlands in a place called Acharacle. We've been before, it is absolutely stunningly beautiful and it also means that I get to drive on my favourite road - the A82 through Glencoe. Hopefully the midges will be busy that weekend and leave us alone.

I discovered a new word in the Glasto thread this year too Anj. "Poppet" So now I can say a poppet is a young female with a peng figure.

This thread keeps on giving and giving 😀

Been a very busy day. Furniture delivered, then gym . This afternoon I built and erected an arch ( very very rustic!) into the new tropical garden - I think that's more Monty Don than the jungle , which is a bit Castleford Tigers, and cut some grass.
Now chilling to a bit of Karen Carpenter, who gets me every time.
Karen Carpenter. Burt Bacharach. Match made in heaven.

Didn't recognise him without his helmet. He'd have made a good Hells Angel when you think about it.

Hells Angel and Hells Granny in the same household. Shudders 😀😀

Oh dear I like Nat King Cole too , but the jazz piano playing Nat as opposed to the crooner Nat.

We have a dry Mediterranean garden too. I raised the levels by about a foot and filled the area with soil and about 6 inches of gravel to aid drainage. I've planted buddleia as a screen against wind and then yuccas, agaves, olive trees , lavender and a few other things to give some summer colour .

I only finished the tropical garden a week or so ago and if you go back 10 pages you should see some photos which Fred very kindly posted . There are tracyhocarpus fotunei ( palm tree) X2 , agapanthus, cordylines, fatsia japonica ( castor oil 2 spiders web and 1 normal ) 7 banana plants ( 5 muso basjo and 2 muso grand Nairn) , a schefflera , a tetrapanix , various grasses , persecaria , ferns , dahlias, acanthus a water feature with umbrella plants and bruchmasia fuschia and a Paulawina.

Fingers crossed that it all grows. It's in a south facing sheltered spot so it has a decent chance if I add some winter protection.

To make it a proper Mediterranean garden you’ll need to set fire to it……
