Why mate?
We all have a laugh about the club being too much of a charity and hanging onto players out of sentimentality, but this is probably the time when we should be providing the lad with a path back into football and to get his head straight, whether that’s in our team, or through the loan system and continue supporting him, but the last thing we should be doing is flogging him off to someone just for the sake of saving a few quid.
Because we are not a charity organisation and can absolutely not afford to be one now. Im aware its cold to say, but he is not our responsibility - Dele going to rehab doesnt change that. We have paid him handsomely to do borderline nothing and I see no non emotional reason to keep doing so.

….football and footballers are not immune to issues that happen in all walks of life.

Personally think it would be difficult for Alli to get back to anything like his form of old. Most likely he will see out his contract here but not be used.
It’s an interesting one. Never been a professional sportsman, so I’ve got no idea what’s likely to happen. At least there’s still time for him to give it his best shot, if that’s what he wants.

Mentioned it a few times I thought his issues were mental health related and evident at play, worse again they developed into a dependency. Away from anything football related, I hope he recovers. Bit - how would you say hesitant to draw a conclusion on a “recovery“ from a few weeks in rehab, these things can take much more time and not always easy, I hope that was a beginning and he continues to work in his issues and receives continued specialist support.

The other thing that concerns me is the access and abuse of sleeping pills - I presume club Doctors are dishing these out and seems like a really dangerous issue. Strikes me oversight, regulation and protocols around this are badly needed and practice reviewed.

Really mate ???

In this country ever employer has a "duty of care" to its staff.
Football is no different whatsoever.

BTW money shouldn't even be mentioned here.

GPs prescribe them like sweets these days. As easily available as weed or any other illegal drug. Sold for a few quid a box.

In the interview he say's the club doctors were strict with them. One per day when the club felt it was required but where there's a will there's a way.

The poorest people in society can find a way to access Class A narcotics so a very wealthy young man in a position that attracts vultures, hangers on and others won't struggle to find a source of sleeping pills.
