He's very young and didn't look out of place in the league, also had very impressive displays for Belgium. It stands to reason that now he's had a year to bed in, he'll thrive a bit more next season.

If I was another club, say West Ham who wanted him last year and have just sold Rice, I'd be thinking anything in the region of 40/50 mil might not be a bad deal, as if the lad lives up to his promise then he will cost more than that in a couple more years' time.

Obviously, knowing Everton, the moment Onana becomes what is today a 60/70 mil player will be the day that World Football recognises that transfer fees have gotten out of hand and we'll barely get the 30 odd mil we paid for him.

Not outstanding for us though. Lots of ifs about him. We just don't have the finances to spend 30 and 40 million on potential. We should be looking for that same potential at under 10. But then there's Thelwell.

While I'm expecting someone to come back and tell me that Ligue 1 is a farmers league, a lot of top talent has came into the prem from there in recent years.

Is 21 years of age and has impressed in Ligue 1 and La Liga over 3 years. Different from Niasse for sure.

Brilliant, I don’t believe him, just like I don’t believe our owner when he says in January that we’ll buy a striker or any of the many, many other lies he’s told us.

In the binary argument of do I want to sign a good player for less money or more money, anyone would choose less money.

I guess the point I'm getting at though is these players aren't cheap as people can see their talent and they're coveted and watched by top teams all around Europe.

I'm sure some boring get is gonna tell me "well Brighton signed such and such for 20p", not bothered, that's a scouting network that has been set up over years and years with zero pressure to be at an elite level for most of that time.

We'll at the very least, make our money back with Onana. That's why paying a higher fee for him wasn't as risky for us as you might think, even with our financial troubles.

The same applies to this kid imo.
