I'm struggling to name a player he could have had in the middle instead, with the obvious exception of Barkley.

Bilyaletdinov is truly awful, I think we're all in agreement there. Cahill is so off form that he's in negative form. On a scale of 1 to 10 he's -3. Baines was used as a full time attacking winger basically so Osman was there to cover him, which Gueye couldn't have done.

Injuries forced that team selection, combined with an admittedly big lack of confidence in Barkley for some reason. He's got to be worth a try though, got to.

Barkley is arguably the best player we have, he is that good.

Yes Bily is pretty bad, better than Neville though I reckon.

Hopefully at himself.

Why risk him?

The lad was forced off at the weekend feeling his hamstring... That should automatically rule him out of a game a couple of days later.

Barkley.

If he was scanned and nothing doing? Why not?

Reckon Barkley was in for the FA cup game as a starter; hence not in today

20 20 hindsight here. Shift Ossie into the middle, Gueye out wide. Sorted. If all else fails, throw Bily into the middle with Gueye wide left. Vic for Cahill.
And Rodwell should have the nuts to tell Moyes he is touch and go - no one knows better than the player.

Captain hindsight away...

Fundamentally though...if he had faith in Gueye, Bilya, Barkley etc at home, against the club at the foot of the league...he'd open up his options from starting out offensive and resorting to being defensive when he's no option.

1 would've been to drop Neville/Heits and slapped Osman in the middle with Gueye out wide. That would leave an extra defensive player on the bench.

Nah, as I said he obviously played Osman on the left to hold shape with Baines bombing on down the left. I actually understand that in a way as Baines is a truly magnificent player and you have to use him properly if he's in the team.

I don't think Gueye could have done the job the same way. And to be fair, Baines played really well, and once Osman went off you notably saw him fade from the game.

I'd have started Osman on the left in the same position as Moyes. Correct decision.

It's Neville/Heitinga in midfield that is the sole problem. There's no forward thinking with that partnership. Therefore, I'd have risked Barkley, and had either Neville or Heitinga alongside him to sit.

Actually, "risked" isn't even the right word. It isn't a risk. Heitinga and Neville doesn't work, everyone else in the squad is either injured or useless, so it's a no brainer for me.

That's the ONLY thing I'll criticise Moyes for tonight - he should have been on the bench, especially ahead of Rodwell who was carrying a hamstring problem.

He sustained a hamstring injury.
On his first return, he pulls up prior a game in a warm up, with a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
On his eventual return, he manages some game time, but is withdrawn due to feeling a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

If you play him only a couple of days later, the chances are, yes... you guessed it.

Idiotic.

Barkley.

Didnt know that.

Add to the fact he was lobbed on quickly with no warm up is bound to add to it.

But its what happens when you get played through injury.

Tubey's right. I've advocated Moyes' quiting for some time, but you can't lay the blame on him tonight.

Dont agree. Gueye and Baines played well together against a better footballing side in Swansea. Gueye faded by the 60th but mainly due to lack of game time.

We could talk about grade 1 - 4 hamstring injuries, scans and such but I guess that would be pointless.

But of course that all depends what information the coaches and physios give him. Doesn't it?

I fumed after the game and was giving it the "moyes out" etc etc but have to agree with this post the injurys cost us big time

But lets not for one min blame the weather Bolton created enough chances in the same circumstances and but for Howard the could have had a few more

Last point if anyone on here thinks Neville should be starting before Barkley they need there head testing
