Given that all 9 of the relegation threatened clubs have not managed more than a point per game all season, it's highly conceivable that if we get just another 10 points to take us to 35 points we'd be ok.
I reckon the safety mark will be even lower than 35 this season

How many times have we done that this season? the whole movement to the ball, dragging the CB with him to create the space for the overlapping run to pick up the flick on.

I think a competent forward would result in on e of those runs from Doucoure or Onana to go through one on one and probably miss. lol:(

You don’t see it that often because it’s pretty easy to defend (unless you’re playing City or Liverpool apparently). Southampton just completely went to sleep. I’m glad we’re not basing our attacking game on hitting a big man from a goal kick, but agree with you that we don’t have the player to run through and finish anyway. Gray is probably the only one I’d be confident of having the pace to stay away and the composure to finish.

38 I reckon. The teams below us at the moment have picked up more points than usual for teams down there. Usually there's a gap by now.

Well, even in a 'purple patch' for S'ton and Bournemouth over the last 6 games they only have 1 more point than a point per game. And they're the teams who haven't laid down and died as they were supposed to. Certainly S'ton aren't likely to get that ppg total over the coming weeks.

I've stated consistently that 36 points will get us safe. I stick to that.

Problem with statistics and runs of form at the bottom is it doesn’t account for one off games. No wins in 12 can disappear in one game and all the ppg is out of the window if they’re the three points that keep a team up. Anyone who looked at our ppg last season and our fixtures against Newcastle, United, Chelsea Leicester (x2) would have said we were down, but we broke the statistical pattern and at the bottom even just breaking it once can be crucial to staying up.

It makes most predictions on relegation completely pointless. Southampton got 4 points from United and Chelsea away yet zero from Leeds and Brentford.

All you can really do is look who is playing well at the moment and hope that points can be taken in periods team play well. We’ve taken a fair few in this decent spell which is good. Palace Leicester Leeds have been punished recently. Could all change though.

That's absolutely true, but the point here is that there's so many teams invoved in this that you can say with some assuredness that not all of them will buck the trend of what they've been doing for the last 27 games or so. There will defo be a team that does what we did late last season and beats other clubs unexpectedly to get out of it. But most wont.

Well I hope you're right mate. Based on what I've seen so far I think we can get 36+ with Dyche in charge.

anyone got a comparator to see what the table was like at this stage of the season last season?

I think more than that.

How easy or hard it'll be to get 36+ points will be determined by the next three games. Get 3 points from that lot and we're nicely set up to get 38/39/40 points IMO.

I'm sure this has been posted before but it's worth repeating: since Dyche came in we've run up

7 points more than Palace
5 points more than Forest
5 points more than Leeds
4 points more than West Ham
4 points more than Leicester
3 points more than Bournemouth
3 points more than Southampton

Obviously, anything approaching that in the remainder of the season gets us well clear.

Think that was immediately after the last gasp win v Newcastle (on the back of four losses in a row). We then lost the next two games, one of them against our direct relegation rival and were facing up to United Chelsea Liverpool Leicester etc. as the next fixtures on the back of 3 slightly fortuitous points in 7 games. There was only 4 teams in the battle for that last place last season also by this point.

I’d take where we are this season over where we were then every single time.
