The Patriots finished a ridiculous 11-5 with Matt freaking Cassel in the year Brady was hurt very early in the season. No one remembers this b/c of a historic season where that wasn't good enough to make the playoffs. Belichick got Cassel paid

I'm not a Brady hater. It just is what it is - the Patriots were the best franchise for 20 years. Great coach. Great QB. Great defenses, generally. It takes a lot of things to go your way to win super bowls

The Bucs had one winning record in the 10 years prior to him joining Tampa. He was also 43 years old and written off, with his legacy already secure with 6 Superbowl wins to his name. I don't think it was the predetermined outcome you're making it out to be tbh

Tampa had a great defense and needed a QB to not throw 25 picks a la Jameis Winston. They had great WRs - Jameis just made way too many mistakes to win games for them

Tampa was indeed just a competent QB away from being a serious Super Bowl contender.

Any team with no recognised receivers would struggle in a Super Bowl? We have been hit with a rash of injuries that is extremely unusual.

Well I can’t imagine the receiving corps will be any weaker next season. I suspect Smith-Schuster will re-sign and I would call him average. Kelce still looks as if he’s at the peak of his career and I expect he will still be a 100 catch man next season.

anyway, came here to post this--I have a lot of time for Joe Bryant and Drew Brees, but I am not confident that Wilson still has the physical tools to get it done. but if he does? good luck to them all.

To be fair, the Denver situation this season was an absolute dumpster fire, with a head coach out of his depth

I have no idea if Russ could turn it around, but I wouldn't be shocked if he did with Payton there

I don't think it's the physical tools that are the problem. Brees was a grounded, mature qb who could take instruction and lead. Russ seems like a nice enough chap, but he is defo an utter weirdo who lives in a world of his own

I find it very hard to see how he mounts a comeback if they fall behind by 10
