Marcel Brands DOF - then Board member as he was promoted

I had to research with my older brother on the telephone - who was the idiot who sold our young USA left back Antonee Robertson to Wigan for a miserly £4 million - who then was purchased by Fulham for £11 million - who puts in a very good performance week in week out for them ...

It was Marcel Brands on his recommendation - rewarded then with a place on the Board - then sacked -

A typical Everton That moment if we have a board tolerating great young players to leave without getting a game for the first team our problems have been deep rooted ages ago .....

We just have a squad that is injury prone or past their best on big wages over 1/2 a billion spent when we had money - the Koeman /walsh DOF era was when most of the money was spent -

Who wanted a DOF = Moshiri......

It's been a disaster of anyone who has been appointed to that position IMO

Mate, take a look at the threads of our young players, absolute toxic. 90% believe they won’t make it when they haven’t even kick a ball. Everton fans are ruthless when it comes to young players.

There's a lot to beat Marcel Brands with, not entirely convinced this is even top 100.

….but we have no idea who did what regarding Everton transfers. We know Managers did their own thing when Brands was DoF, indeed Benitez refused to even pick up the phone to him.

I actually have a view that Brands kept things together at the club with his diplomatic skills. The Mad House has fallen apart since he left.

….i remember posting at the time it was a daft decision. From what I remember we didn’t have a back-up for Baines. Saying that, Robinson had a few bad injuries and plenty of time on the sidelines which might have influenced the decision.

To be fair, not many Academy players come back to haunt us.

Bottom line is, we don’t know who made the decision to let him go. Brands was DoF but it doesn’t work like that with Everton.

It was Baines last season so if we loaned him it would've just been Digne, who kept getting injured after that point in front of him. If you sell a player for 1 million and then AC Milan bid 10 for him 6 months later then its a pretty big cockup. especially when you now have a worse left back

He was purchased for 2m by Fulham, as backup, and was a decent at best Championship player who recently developed. Just like Baines did basically.

But we didn't, we sold him for sub-5m and Fulham bought him for even less - 2m. He was an average championship full back.

Shame no one bothered to spin up their crystal ball and see he'll develop to be an average prem footballer this year.

This is definitely not the right stick to beat Brands with lol

His nickname is Jedi and he's absolutely bang average. We got good money for him 4 years ago when he was never playing ahead of Digne.

We also sold him for £2m not £4m and Fulham bought him for £2m not £11m?

The thing is that there are plenty of factors that go into decisions like this. Often players will make the case that they are better than they are, and will request starting positions (there is nothing wrong with that). However, if, for example, he wasn't good enough for our 11, and stated that he will leave at the end of his contract if not a regular, then the club are often left with little choice but to get what they can. Players do that almost as a bet on themselves, one that Antonee has benefitted from. Plenty haven't.
