I get the calls for him to resign, but think about it at the human level - aside from the football: if you think this failure is likely to end your managerial career (at least at a high level), then you must have the inclination to get as much money as you can out of the situation in order to set yourself up for the rest of your life after. I think most people would do the same, honestly.
