He also created far many more chances and his xA was a lot better.

Assists rely on someone putting them away for you.

We dropped down massively in quality. Again, James' wages are ultimately part of the long-term issue that has resulted in this mess. But then again, having players of genuine quality means you aren't languishing relying on Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray.

A goal contribution every 4th game compared to James that was every other game.

Think we'd be comfortably mid table with Richarlison instead of McNeil and Maupay.

Whether we would be or not that's the difference this season.

In the run-in we had Richarlison pop up with huge moments that frankly nobody else in the squad possessed the quality for. And Richarlison missed some sitters too.

This season we don't have that. Whichever manager is in charge, they aren't going to suddenly add consistency to Gray or Gordon's games, or make McNeil into a quick player.
