It's interesting how you're suggesting others are deluded in their views when you're coming out with this.

For a lot of the Moyes years we weren't mediocre. We came 4th, 5th twice I think, and 6th a couple of times. We played in Europe and got to a Cup Final.

If Moyes had have come in, in the early 70s or late 80s, using the term mediocre may have had some legitimacy in comparison to the years before but he followed on from a period where relegation battles were the norm.

Other than 1 season since he left we've been nowhere near his level and mediocrity is a word too kind for most of the period after him.

I'm as proud as any Evertonian of our history of titles and trophies but we've been competing since 1892 and only 9 of them have seen us the best. To expect that level regularly is delusional and unfair to just dismiss good achievements in certain circumstances as mediocre just because it hasn't reached the very top level of success.

We are a big club. Just a very poorly run big club who dont compete at the main table anymore.
This club has more top flight points than any other in England.
You can still be a big club going through hard times. When Man Utd got relegated to the 2nd division in the 70s they didnt stop being a big club.

Its a split debate though. I appreciate that.

Wasn't there a stat that we had won a trophy every decade of our existence up to 96?

Sorry but I simply can't stand Moyes that's all, he was one of the highest paid managers in the game when he was here (more than Wenger at one point) he bottled every game against any of the big clubs as he was so in awe of the likes of Fergie and others. He is such a limited manager, look now at West Ham, nearly £200m spent and he looks utterly lost, still sticking to the same tired formation which has clearly been worked out by opposition managers. It's not just that but he played along with Kenwrights 'plucky little Everton' line which ultimately has cost the club on a long term basis.

I think what stops being thought of as a “big club” is just a fading into irrelevance. Huddersfield were a “big club” in the 1920s when they won the league 3 times in a row (extreme example, I know!). When I was a kid going the match in the 80s, I always remember the grown ups talking about Wolves being in the second Division and what a big club they were. I was baffled. They’d only won stuff in the 50s, 30 odd years earlier! To young people today our glory days are long gone. Big support, great history but we can’t pretend we are anything more than that any longer. In the last 32 years we’ve been to TWO cup finals. TWO!! We’ve finished in the Top 4 once. Nil Satis etc etc.

Thinking we're still a big club has been been one of the problems that's brought on our current downfall imo. We didn't adapt. Others changed with the times whilst we waxed lyrical about winning stuff in black and white and 4 glory years in the 1980's.

Most premier league players weren't even born when we last won the league. Most premier league players aren't old enough to remember our last fa cup win.

Probably one of West Ham's best ever managers for what he's achieved in the last 2 seasons.

6th, 7th and a Europa League Semi Final.
 
Probably not the time for this, and may not get the best responce.

But going down is just part of the sport, if it happens. Its not RIP the club, or tge end of us. We wont disappear as a club.

Some need to get a grip a little, many others great clubs have been relegated and they still existed, competed in games and had fans enjoying watching the team play and win games on the pitch.

Plenty of other clubs are in a worse situation than us, some even lost their clubs completely.

We have been making up the numbers in the prem for years now, and dont do anything anyway, its crap and boring.
