2022/23 Frank Lampard

Nearly a year of Lampard now and the only way we look capable of winning points is with an ultra defensive approach. As soon as we attack the team looks lost. Players are a big part of that but so is the manager.

That's been the case since Big Sam came in though.

Personally think I've seen glimpses of a team that's solid enough but his inexperience shines through. Key point is that our forward line needs some firepower...but yet instead of compensating our lack of goals he still thinks we can play football, create, and score with players that just can't.

There's nothing wrong with being ultra defensive if you're getting results.

I honestly don't feel Lampard has done much wrong.

All I see is years of atrocious recruitment.

That's the major issue here.

People fuming that Frank went 4-3-3 at home would also have been fuming if he went 5-3-2.

Stop acting like there's logic behind your incessant desire to see yet another new hair-do in the dugout.
I agree that people are making too much an issue with the formation. Like you say, had we lost 1-4 playing 5-3-2 people would be saying why are we setup like that at home to Brighton....

I cant agree with he hasn't done much wrong though. I like him and still believe he done a good job last season in keeping us up but we have not kicked on from last season in any way whatsoever. We look completely lost when going forward and it seems to be getting worse each game. It appears the only way he can get points is to set the team up to defend. Sadly it is time for a new manager with new ideas, whoever that might be.

Most felt he should've kept the side that played well against City. Reason being is that the 433 hasn't worked most of the season.

He also had to stop losing at home. That's 3 on the bounce.

Possibly but I really don’t know what system you could play that would make a difference. You can rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic, it’s still going to sink.

To me, at the start of the season I couldn’t really see how we were going to win a game with the players we had. If we stayed up it would be by the skin of our teeth and by being the lowest scorers in the league- basically staying in games and nicking the odd undeserved 1-0 win. Start of the season looked like we might be able to do that but it’s zero margin for error football and it’s tailed off.

His record is terrible but it’s not unexpected, to me at least. People can gnash their teeth and demand better but it’s not going to magically happen with the players we have.
Personally I think an experienced manager would be able to grind out some results at least.

We are likely doomed regardless but that doesn't mean we just roll over and quit. We need to roll the dice. Lampard has been given a year and we have seen negative progress. It's time.

Just seen the score...lol. We are awful aren't we?...and Frank is like Slippy...very good as a player, not good as a manager. So, in summary: we have a poor squad, poor manager, poor coaches, poor executive and a crap Board...writing is on the wall

Frank's time may be up for me, but regardless. He isn the creator of the mess but he isnt doing alot to fix it. The whole world could see after a good 10min start, there was 35 minutes of crap. Usual stuff of waiting to make changes (Although limited options).

The owner, board, ceo, medical team all need binning off. But Lampard has to do a hell of a lot more than last night, what have they done in training for 6 weeks? We look considerably worse, which didnt seem possible.

We constnatly play the way of having the midfielders drop into full back to recieve possession, it has NEVER worked for us.

Hardly, he’s got the board to blame for years of mismanagement. He can ask but it doesn’t change the financial position or the answer.

Over the last number of seasons people have bemoaned being constantly overrun in midfield, not even competitive. Gomes, Davies, Doucourre, Allan - he’d have been negligent to leave those guys in place just to go for an attacking midfielder. The entire starting midfield needed replaced and on a shoestring budget. We were losing targets like Gibbs-White to Nottingham Forest, that’s how weak our spending power is and ability to compete in the market.

Had to put his faith in the mercurial Iwobi becoming a consistent top attacking midfielder and that was never going to happen. Equally put faith in Gordon picking up the slack left by Richie and again was never going to happen. So I suppose he could take the blame for not sanctioning Gordon’s sale and pinning his hopes on Iwobi to create but given the scale of the challenge he faced in the summer, I’m not feeling like the finger is pointing at him so much as the board and Thelwell. They’ve allowed the squad to go into the season criminally underprepared and just left Lampard to try to pick up the pieces.
Fair points mate, and I agree the board are a disgrace.

It’s too broad brush and extreme to say that the ‘whole board’ are a ‘disgrace’

Firstly, the club is trying to do something very difficult in compete in the premier league

Secondly, the fans are a major part of the problem and not really held accountable

If there’s a key change to make here it is surely that the club needs a new owner and probably Chairman

There was talk of buyers a few months ago but that seems to have cooled. We might be in a position where that won’t happen this season
