I accept that Frank has inherited (and bought) some crap players, but good managers get the best out of them and win more than 1 game in 9. Frank's track record (failing at Derby despie having money to spend, taking Chelsea backwards plus the same old cliches he trots out after our games - 'we need to stick together/work hard', 'individual errors cost us' (it's not like other teams have 'individual errors', they just have the tactical nous and ability not to totally collapse after them) shows that he was never up to it. This will be his last Premier League job. The question is, do we put him out of his misery now or let him take us down?

He’s only got himself to blame then, he had his chance to ask for one.

Garner, Onana and Gana all look deep lying players to me. Iwobi doesn’t look like he’s advanced either.
Hardly, he’s got the board to blame for years of mismanagement. He can ask but it doesn’t change the financial position or the answer.

Over the last number of seasons people have bemoaned being constantly overrun in midfield, not even competitive. Gomes, Davies, Doucourre, Allan - he’d have been negligent to leave those guys in place just to go for an attacking midfielder. The entire starting midfield needed replaced and on a shoestring budget. We were losing targets like Gibbs-White to Nottingham Forest, that’s how weak our spending power is and ability to compete in the market.

Had to put his faith in the mercurial Iwobi becoming a consistent top attacking midfielder and that was never going to happen. Equally put faith in Gordon picking up the slack left by Richie and again was never going to happen. So I suppose he could take the blame for not sanctioning Gordon’s sale and pinning his hopes on Iwobi to create but given the scale of the challenge he faced in the summer, I’m not feeling like the finger is pointing at him so much as the board and Thelwell. They’ve allowed the squad to go into the season criminally underprepared and just left Lampard to try to pick up the pieces.

Wanted him to do well, he talks very well and seemed to have a good team of coaches behind him.

He has persisted in trying to get this poor team to play in a way that they are just unable to. There is no attacking patterns or creativity, some neat and tidy passes between them, but no progressive ways to break down a team.

Surely constantly changing systems surely doesn't help. I was amazed last night when he reverted back to 433 after it potentially being a starting point to building something. That 532 although not pretty, at least suited our players. There'd be less space for the opposition to pass through us and we could use the pace of Gray/Gordon and DCL/Simms to counter attack. Also our wide attackers are just poor at defending, so just leave them up the pitch.

We can't go out and sign a load of players so get someone in that this is their preferred formation, see if Tuchel wants a challenge ?

Yep he dropped a real bollock reverting back to a 433 which the players simply haven't implemented well enough.

Really poor management last night for such a important game

Great post.

Maybe so, but he hasn't done himself any favours playing the same system of which no one is sure what the plan is

His record just cannot be excused.

it’s basically this

I think, after that debacle, Lampard has to go. I've been willing him to get it right all season, not because I think he is a good manager, but because I'm terrified to imagine what absolute whopper Kenwright and Moshiri will bring in next. Unfortunately, Lampard seems to be a dreamer, it was absolute madness to try and match Brighton for football last night. The fact is, as unpalatable as it may be, Brighton are miles ahead of us in terms of quality. The only way we get anything against any half decent team is to keep it tight and play route one stuff.

Our recruitment has, for the most part, been absolutely abysmal since Moshiri came in and I include our recruitment of DOF's and managers in that, even Carlo was a poor appointment, great coach as he is, he was never a good fit here. My worry is that the club will appoint another unsuitable manager, probably Rooney, and then not back him in the transfer market.

Lampard will take us down for sure, but, I believe whoever comes in, they will be unable to save us this time. Kenwright DBB and Moshiri need to get out of the club, we need people with half an idea of how to run a football team in charge.

I know how we get out of this mess, we ask ourselves 'what would the Everton board do? They always get it right.'. FFS.
